Interesting article and makes a good point about Baylor's OOC schedule and record of B12 teams played. Sure Baylor's big games come at the end, but it can be argued that Memphis with Temple, Navy and Houston ahead has a schedule that can match. Just imagine if Temple didnt have that last pass intercepted.

Before you discount the American on perception alone, Memphis beat Cincy and USF , both .500+ squads who have wins versus the P5. If both Ole Miss and Bowling Green run the table in their respective divisions, Memphis can claim wins over the SEC West and MAC East champions. It also helps that the MAC East champs added two wins over P5 teams - something thats never happened under the GOL regime during the regular season.*

This is the example i argue when it comes to getting the attention of the P5 and expansion...especially if youre a G5 school. There's a bunch of other tangibles as well, but what proof can they provide recently and consistently that makes them a viable candidate for the P5. Now sure Memphis may have a long ways to go if they want more examples, but simply winning your G5 conference and losing ooc games especially versus the P5 will be a tough sell for any big conference that wants to expand. Even when UCF finished 10th in 2013, Missouri fans could care less that we were playing them early in the season. Who knows? Maybe the last second loss to Penn State didnt help either.

It will never happen its all about $$$ expect 2 SEC teams instead. its not a playoff its an invitational.

Its funny too because they the P5 has history on their side. Now Memphis is challenging it.
In the past, G5 wins versus the ooc are good but not great. The conference as a whole are getting rare p5 wins. The schedule at the end of the season is considered easy because of how unsuccessful they were OOC wise.
This year.
Does Memphis have good ooc wins? Potentially they can be great wins over Ole Miss (SEC contender) and Bowling Green (MAC contender).
How is their conference? the American across the board has 8 wins versus the P5. Memphis beat Cinci and South Florida who has two of those wins.
How is their schedule looking towards the end of the season? Two or three potential top 25 games against conference teams.

I'm curious to see how Memphis follows up this season the next 2 years. They will have had a better season than UCFs in 2013 so now will they put together a few more decent ones to build that fanbase and earn a big 12 invite

Their coach will get plucked and the QB should leave after this season. I doubt they have a year like this ever again. It's fun to watch though.

And LOL on them in the playoffs. Ohio State got in last year even though TCU deserved it more and TCU is P5. It's all about the $$$

I think it's funny that people hang on the words of the committee, when they explain the rankings. "Ball control matters" "Quality wins matter", etc, etc... These only apply to that week, because that's the excuse that fits the teams they chose. Ohio State got in last year because they're OHIO STATE and are one of the best selling merchandise programs (franchise?) in college football. If Illinios did the same thing, they're out. Here is the real selection criteria: TV draw.

Almost worthless to talk about Memphis (or even Houston) till the Memphis at Houston game.

Unlike Memphis, Houston might actually have a defense..and with the game in Houston (one that their fans might finally show up at), I think Houston has the inside track to win AAC West.

Memphis also has a home game vs NAVY and a road game at Temple too.

Temple may have the most sound & best coached defense in the AAC but Houston definitely has the most talent on that side of the ball. Lots of athletes and ball hawks

Yeah...Houston leads the nation with +15 turnover margin (22 turnovers gained, 5 turnovers lost)...and while they have taken advantage of some weaker opponents...if UH can do that against their upcoming tougher opponents (all games at home: Cinci, Navy, Memphis), UH should be favorite to win AAC West....and host AAC Champ Game vs Temple.

UCF is tied for 2nd to last with 24 turnovers coughed up (6 fumbles, 18 INT's), and UCF is #125 (out of #128) with a -15 turnover margin.

Not sure why Memphis isn't getting any credit. They beat Ole Miss by 13 who was the only team to defeat #4 Alabama and is in the drivers seat to win their division. They beat Bowling Green another team in the drivers seat to win their divison who also beat two P5 teams. Memphis struggling against conference teams isnt the same as UCF doing so in 2013. While the AAC west is the better of the two with the top 3 combining for one loss, the AAC east can claim 4 wins versus the P5 by 4 different teams...meaning not only undefeated teams but .500 are beating the P5. Only P5 conferences can be .500 teams with wins against OOC teams. Memphis next opponent is 6-1 Navy, then possible undefeated Houston after, if they beat Houston they have Temple and most likely can play them twice. Take away SMU and the opponents combined record will be 22-2 (give and take a couple of games along the way).

Houston - great year btw - hasnt experienced the test that Memphis has. Sure they beat Louisville and they didnt curl into fetal position when they found out Vandy belonged to the SEC but Texas State, Tenn Tech, Tulane, tulsa and SMU isnt exactly murderers row. Go right ahead and keep questioning the validity of Memphis though - a seven point win over a Cinci team that beat ACC Miami and lost to Temple by 8.

Look, these guys are writers who get paid to write often and try to get readers. The rankings aren't that bad for the first week. Wow....shocker....they dissed a G5 school. We got dissed as well back in 2013. A lot of the top 20 teams will be playing each other over the next 3 weeks and things should work themselves out. Unfortunately, the mindset is G5 always gets rated behind P5 schools, regardless if it makes sense. Memphis could win out and it would probably would still get shut out of the CFP, even though they would probably have three top 25 wins (ole miss, houston, temple)....and quality wins against navy and potentially bowling green, and unfortunately for them, most likely having to play temple again in the conference championship game. They would probably get bumped out by a couple of P5 team with one loss. I've preached this before. A G5 school basically has to go undefeated for two seasons before they might get a chance for the CFP. In 2014 if Blake and Storm played we could have run the table. No way we lose the penn state and uconn games. The only toss-up would still be the Mizzou game. Game wahs 14-10 until 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. If we would have won out the regular season who knows what might have happened. Unfortunately, we'll never know and if Memphis wins out they'll never know either because Lynch will be gone, like Bortles. He might be gone regardless of what happens. Right now he looks to be on level or better than Bortles did his last season. San diego, dallas, cleveland, chicago and san fran could all be looking for their next franchise QB.

They said its not written to be this way but Memphis is testing it. Im sure plenty of people want them lose such as our fanbase and the P5.

Memphis isn't getting any credit but fans are here on jealous and worried that Memphis will get a Big 12 invite in the near future.
