Interesting article and makes a good point about Baylor's OOC schedule and record of B12 teams played. Sure Baylor's big games come at the end, but it can be argued that Memphis with Temple, Navy and Houston ahead has a schedule that can match. Just imagine if Temple didnt have that last pass intercepted.
Before you discount the American on perception alone, Memphis beat Cincy and USF , both .500+ squads who have wins versus the P5. If both Ole Miss and Bowling Green run the table in their respective divisions, Memphis can claim wins over the SEC West and MAC East champions. It also helps that the MAC East champs added two wins over P5 teams - something thats never happened under the GOL regime during the regular season.*
This is the example i argue when it comes to getting the attention of the P5 and expansion...especially if youre a G5 school. There's a bunch of other tangibles as well, but what proof can they provide recently and consistently that makes them a viable candidate for the P5. Now sure Memphis may have a long ways to go if they want more examples, but simply winning your G5 conference and losing ooc games especially versus the P5 will be a tough sell for any big conference that wants to expand. Even when UCF finished 10th in 2013, Missouri fans could care less that we were playing them early in the season. Who knows? Maybe the last second loss to Penn State didnt help either.
