John Rhys Plumlee quote from @therealbeede article, Orlando Sentinel in regards to playing dual sports:

"I would be doing my second-grade self an injustice if I said,

Hey man,

I'm going to do something different.' I just want to live my dream for as long as I can."

I’m sorry but his quote says it all. ITS ABOUT HIM, NOT THE TEAM!! (I’m, I, My)… I truly believe we have/had the talent to compete nationally and our QB play destroyed the teams momentum and expectation. If Plumlee isn’t going to put 100% focus and attention to Football, then he needs to step aside and allow a new QB1 to develop full-time chemistry with the starters! At this point he’s holding the program from moving forward both in playing and recruiting at the QB position.

said it in the Recruiting thread that he came off really bad in that facility tour YouTube

bragging about not putting touch on your passes , bragging about not throwing to a TE/WR who was a mile wide open to run it in yourself, etc . So many hints that he is a me guy and not a leader

I think you're cherry picking one quote to UCFit your bias conclusion.

How much specialization is too much? Should we limit how many classes players take?

#UCFacts

It's all about progression at a position which Gus has said himself. I just didn't see that with Plumlee as the season moved forward which is why everybody started getting on the Mickey bus. Mickey wasn't a Plumlee running talent which goes well with the Gus offense but he definitely showed progression as a QB.

Plumlee just using his speed and athleticism will get him signed to a minor league baseball team...

Some idiotic takes here.

This is his life, his future career, these are his choices to make.

Is the baseball team not a team, too? Utterly confused by the outrage here, as someone said earlier, if him playing baseball ends up stunting his growth as a QB then someone like Thomas Castellanos should take advantage. If Castellanos is not good enough to take advantage, then it's ****ing Malzahn's fault for not bringing in talent at the QB position. Leave the kid alone.

That’s where my head is at too.

if he decided half-assing it is the way to go (not saying he did), coaches have the responsibility to pick another option. It isn’t a kid’s duty to live and breathe being a QB 24/7.

Let's remember that there was an agreement in place that he would be allowed to play both football and baseball here at UCF. If exercising his rights under that agreement causes him to not be the best option at QB then of course UCF coaching staff has the right to replace him with someone who performs better. But let's not fault Plumlee for exercising what was agreed to before he even came to UCF. Tommy, Timmy and/or Dylan just need to step up and be ready if Plumlee falters.

‘Go Play Intramurals’

He is giving critics more material.

For real. Can’t see how we are picking this guy apart for his personality now also. He seems like a really good teammate and person. Just bad takes all around here, bunch of reaching.

Sounds spoiled and entitled and an flirts with egomania. That Facility Tour did not win him any points with me at all. He is a ME with all caps!

Certainly agree with the last sentence!

If it took you this long to figure that out, shame on you. I noticed it before he ever took a snap.

Flashback to meet the Knights after preseason practice 3. In the first two minutes of his interview, Keene named 10 significant skill players on offense.

John Rhys Plumlee could not name one. (Same is probably true today.). In fact, it was 9 minutes into his interview before he mentioned a UCF player by name, and that player happened to be the guy he sat beside in meetings.

Haha…I like the GOL-ism thrown in there.

Whose in charge of the team Plumlee or Malzahn? Plumlee can do whatever he wants, it's Malzahn that is choosing to stick with him.
Plumlee is unable to read defenses. That’s why you see him getting sacked so much, he doesn’t know where to go with the ball. Malhazan tries to make it easy for him - a short pass (one read) and get rid of the ball quick.

Other than that, dude gets himself in trouble throwing the ball. NVM that he is highly inaccurate on any pass longer than 20 yards. That’s who he is, an athlete pretending to be a QB. He’s not going to improve either.

Agreed, the moment he said he intended to play both sports Gus should have taken someone else in the portal committed to be a 24/7 QB and just told Plumlee not to expect more than a Gatewood role.

JRP was responsible for the same amount of yards, including rushing and passing stats, last season as DG AND we had 9 wins vs. 6 wins for OK with DG as their QB1.

Therefore, while I agree that we need to get better at QB, we didn't take a step back in terms of ability to win games against the better teams in the AAC. We beat Cincy and Memphis and got to the CCG... Three things that DG never did in two seasons.

Are we forgetting who beat the team that won the Cotton Bowl, on the road no less? Plumlee played an equal amount of time in the Cincy game, and Memphis was ass this year.

Don't sleep on Timmy McClain dude is legit and has an arm. About beat us with basically no talent around him.

Plumlee did himself no favors in the bowl game with having the team on his side. With him being gone all spring, would have to imagine many existing and all new players are not looking up to him as the leader/captain of the team. Malzahn talked last fall camp about the team deciding who the QB/leader is, either he lets the team decide or see a disjointed offensive unit come gameday.

Plumlee is a superb athlete just needs to work on the mind part of being a QB which seems to be lacking. More specific, your great QBs have everybody's route in their minds on every play and can look at the defense and see where he's going to throw the ball (primary, secondary, etc. ) This takes a lot of studying and practice. QBs who stare at their receivers before they throw the ball don't become good QBs.

He does put the ball on the ground a lot as well. Sometimes we are able to fall on it, other times he kills drives by taking sacks or coughing it up. Long run and a fumble at the end of it. 1st and 10 turns into 2nd and 20. Im not a QB coach, but it doesn't appear to my untrained eye that he can read defenses all that well. Needs to spend 100's of hours this spring and summer watching film. Not sure he can do that with baseball. I don't know if he has the potential to play MLB. If he does, then I understand playing baseball, but if that isn't likely, he may end up embarrassing himself in the fall, especially if one of the young guys like TC or Timmy pass him by.

THIS^^^^^^^^^^^ he does not have the mind part. And unless the play is a designed play or run, he can't improvise too much. He has sometimes....

Yeah, with terrible Malzahn play calling and Plumlee having a bad day, that = LOSS

Just read that the coaches are going to work Plumlee's schedule so that he gets to participate in Spring Ball. Hope that is beneficial to him and team.

This guy still doesn't strike me as a team player. I am ready to see somebody new.

they are reading this board lol …they know fans are skeptical of the fairness of the qb competition. hope I am wrong but it could get ugly if Timmy or Tommy feel like they got screwed

In the other thread where he’s interviewed for the upcoming baseball season. He literally says he’s playing spring ball. It’s like people on this board don’t know what they’re talking about.

He may be playing spring ball but I believe some question where his focus will be.
