how is it that we are 90 days into people gathering like this and they haven't had a surge in Covid cases?

Oregon in general has way outperformed the national average. Doesn't seem possible.

Oregon in general has way outperformed the national average. Doesn't seem possible.
They’ve followed the same trend, though, with a spike beginning in early June, peaking in mid-July, and tapering off since. Oregon is demographically different and has different health culture than a lot of other places as well.

Tossing bricks can help too. Don't get close.
Bricks are hard to toss, I recommend soup cans. Then when you are caught, you can say "it was just soup from my family"! Cream of mushroom tosses better than tomato.

You have people coming over with bags and bags of soup. And they aren’t sending their Pacific and Amy’s. They are sending Campbell’s, Bumble Bee , and Swanson. They are salty, full of soybean oil, MSG. And some, I assume, are good soups.

Well done
