So, instead of pushing for inclusion to a Power 5 Conference, I think UCF and the other top tier programs in the AAC should be lobbying to add us as a Power 6 Conference.

The AAC has some strong programs in both football and basketball, and in many cases they are far stronger than many power five teams.

It's obvious, power five conferences are not going to expand and add new teams because they don't want to let go of the money. However if they add a new Power 6 Conference, there will be additional revenue through attendance of better games and hopefully more TV contracts. Thoughts??

LOL you are joking right? The AAC's top dog just lost to Navy. Just enjoy the label of top G5 conference but please say no more about being a power conference.

You can't lobby for Power conference. You have to win it, and 1 good team means ZERO, just ask MWC. It's going to take at least a decade or more of strong teams, big wins, for anyone to want to watch an AAC game. 90% of the P5 don't deserve the ranking, they just got lucky to be in a conference where the top 2-4 teams are rank-worthy.

That's playing by their rigged rules, also know as illegal restraint of trade. You're recommending we do what they want us and the other 60+ non-P5 schools to do: seek the unattainable! If BYU, with infinite resources can't get in, what chance does anyone else have. The P-5 is a cartel, complete with profit sharing of revenues, restrictions on who they get to play, how they must spend (and not spend) their funds, when they can play, who can play for them, who gets sanctions imposed, to the nine yards.

The schools don't benefit at all. If they did, U. of Alabama would would be wealthy and have great educational programs (and the state's labor force wouldn't suck). The NCAA and the P-5 within it is a thinly disguised professional lobby to create jobs and raise salaries for A.D.s, coaches, and athletic personnel.

So what do we do? An anti-trust suit and Congressional hearing is sure to work -- it always has in the past! That forces the protected conferences to soften their restrictions for a while until the threat subsides. Meanwhile, we could do everything to sabotage the Big 12's credibility and trust by spreading rumors that encourage distrust. But that's dangerous because the P-5 would become the P-4, each expanding to 16 schools and closing off entry forever.

Actually all it takes is one good program. The Big East gained "power" status solely on Miami's performance through the eighties and nineties. Didn't they win the big east like 12+ years in a row?

True, but that was centuries ago in sports time. There were still independent powerhouses and ESPN wasn't so powerful.

At the end of the day it's about location and money. BYU is a
different animal. Terrible location
with a good fan base. Doesn't take much to get people to games when you live in the sticks just like every team in the SEC. BYU has the religious issue as well. Culturally not
a good fit for the P5. If you have been
left out as many times as BYU what
makes them attractive now.

Houston, UCF and USF have more to
offer longterm than BYU.

UCF needs a sugar daddy just like Oregon with Phil Knight or Mr Papa
Johns with Louisville. Money buys
influence, facilities and creates an
athletic budget that can't be ignored
by the big boys. When ACC added Louisville they had the biggest athletic budget of all non P5's at the time of
$87 million. Not the only reason they
got picked but I guarantee you they
don't get into the ACC with $40 million
dollar athletic budget and one BB
national championship at the time.
I believe they won the 2nd title right
after they joined the ACC.

When can go on and on about wanting P5 inclusion and we might
gain access at some point. However,
the only way so they can't ignore you is the bust the door down. Money gets
us bigger coaches salaries, huge recruiting budgets = better recruits.

I believe that UCF could be a major program in a G5 conference immediately but we need sugar daddy with $100 million to throw into the program tomorrow along with continued support of millions every year. One sugar daddy has tons of
Influence then he gets other wealthy
people to buy into the vision.

We don't have any billionaires to my knowledge that are alumni or friends of UCF.

Never gonna happen. It's UCF's only liability. We cannot get into that kind of war, for we'd be sure to lose. And that's the game the NCAA wants us to play. UCF is maxed out in student fees already. Poor students are heavily subsidizing your sports experience, and most alumni sports fans donate little or nothing. Ohio St., Penn St., Michigan, etc. fans plan their entire lives around state U. sports attendance and spend a fortune for the two-tiered tickets (first you pay a thousand dollars a year for the right to buy each tickets). UF alums can pay that because they come from much wealthier families than UCF alums.
