No one will be convicted or otherwise held accountable for the 2015 shootout between rival biker gangs in Waco restaurant parking lot that left nine people dead and at least 20 injured, prosecutors in Central Texas said Tuesday.

In a statement announcing all charges will be dropped in the deadliest biker shooting in U.S. history, McLennan County District Attorney Barry Johnson said any further effort to prosecute the case would be a "waste of time, effort and resources."

If you had continued out the quote and the story you’d see that the current prosecutor wants to charge these guys but the prior prosecutor screwed up for 3 years and the last of the previously filed charges are now expiring.

So basically the prior guy was incompetent or on the take from the gang. But this is not merely a decision of the current prosecutor refusing to bring charges as it’s been depicted.

Here's a good read from the local paper:

https://www.wacotrib.com/news/twin-...cle_124b9c6f-d3ab-581b-bb85-56ed33560735.html

Basically:

- Prior prosecutor is an idiot
- Charged 200 people with the same exact crime which was problematic to begin with
- First tried the gang leader and it ended in a mistrial in 2017 which put the odds of convicting anyone else lower than they should have been
- New prosecutor wins election, brings in a team of other prosecutors to assist, and they all determine the prior guy left this a total mess
- This team recommends dropping charges since the situation was beyond repair and getting a conviction would be near impossible
