PSA: The former "Fabulous" MOAT Sports Grille

It's tough to screw up breakfast. Even so, I don't know that a breakfast place will survive there. Who goes out to breakfast on a weekday? Thus the business is mostly weekends. Unless they stay open for lunch, have extremely cheap rent or can figure out how to lure college kids oit of bed on a Tuesday, it will be tough sledding.

It can't be that hard to be better than first watch. Hell, Perkins, Ihop and Waffle House are better than First watch. Besides, breakfast places are for late night drunks, not for mornings.

I never understand cramming into breakfast places and waiting forever to eat. Eggs and pancakes are the easiest things to make and I can make equally tasting stuff at home.

Gotta agree with @Happy Hands . First watch is terrible. If you're going to pay that much for breakfast, Keke's would be the place to do it. I'd still much rather go to any small diner, esp Town House in Oviedo, though.

Keke's is overpriced by a huge margin. I went once. For whatever reason, I like First Watch better, probably similar cost but not as shitty. We typically go to a local mom and pop place for a greasy breakfast for like $4.

Unless they are giving away free anti-hangover IVs, it will shut in six months.

FWIW, breakfast does have pretty big margins. Most places will charge $7-9 for an omlette that cost them maybe $1 to make.

I grew up in a restaurant that was a country kitchen type theme. Cafeteria style. Opened at 3am. Real big with fishermen, construction workers etc. You aren't kidding about the breakfast margins. We broke even on lunch and went in the hole on dinner. Breakfast put five kids through private colleges. I always laugh when I go in hipster places hyping their sunday brunch. Its like they have a sign on the door that says "Hey, we lost our shirt this weekend because we don't know what the eff we are doing selling $5 beers made from Icelandic moss, so come back on Sunday and help bail us out!"

You know what irritates me the most about breakfast places? Charging $2-3 for coffee. Coffee should come with the meal dammit, especially the shit that they serve.

Keke's are open for lunch as well (7 AM - 2:30 pm)

Keke's also has another place on Alafaya in Waterford...and its doing pretty well (as are their other locations), as their overall costs are low, generally only have to schedule 1 shift of workers for the entire day...and shut down when there is a lot more competition and higher costs (dinner).

And yes, as someone else noted, I'd take Keke's over First Watch...but neither are as good for breakfast as Townhouse.

FYI there is a senior citizen community just up the street on Alafaya that fits Keke's demographic.

I think restaurants in general always grossly overestimate the potential of being near a large university. They just envisions tons of mouths to feed, not recognizing that most college kids just want the cheapest shit they can find and something that goes well with Natural Light. I remember seeing people stare in shock when Houlihans would charge $5 a beer, considering they just drank all night at Devaney's for $10.

Nah $10+ for just a burger and fries/sides cost extra is exactly what poor college kids want.*

I don't know the margins, but to your and Huffy's point, I can say without a doubt the restaurant at Ikea is a more direct contribution to the bottom line than 'enticing customers to stay in the store longer.'
