If you had a chance to chat 1:1 with Gus, what would you ask him about our team after our first season (minus bowl game)?

I'll start off with what I would ask him:
1. Will you fire any coaches? - I ask this because it didn't appear Keene developed and special teams were atrocious. Also, see #2
2. What is with all the bad tackling? - Not sure if this is a T-Will problem or position coaches problem
3. How do you explain using Gatewood, who was quite ineffective while he was in?

Keene did improve over the last half of his starts....but his ceiling might be low that no one could coach him up enough. And remember, not Gus's recruit.

Have to switch kicker and punter out next year....to his credit, Gus brought in a transfer kicker, but he must have really sucked.

I was shocked that Gatewood was so bad, as he almost won the Ky job....Gus probably felt the same. I expect he will be shown the door.

I thought the tackling was better this year than the previous two.

I would ask him:
1) are the other QBs really THAT BAD?!
2) is it really that hard to find a competent Kicker and punter? Why does our whole Special Teams suck?
3) can I coach Special Teams?

Fair questions but he would never answer those publicly..

1. What's biggest improvement you need to make offensively and defensively in off-season.
2. Why didn't Gatewood get more passing chances.
3. Besides QB, what's the biggest position that you need to retool at.
4. With DG leaving, how do you keep the guys focused and keep control of the locker room?
5. How will you get better at special teams and how will you know?

Why does it appear our defensive lineman are playing patty-cake with opposing team offensive lineman rather than bull-rushing?

Question #3 would be all my questions but it looks like in the past few games he’s gone with Navarro instead and it works a lot better, so that question is overcome by events.

What barometer do you use to determine whether an offensive coordinator who can call the plays could be of help to the team?
Because he tried it at Auburn and it was a disaster. Lesson learned I don't think he is going to try it again.

I'm quite familiar with the history of it. However,

1. Regardless of the performance of whomever he had hired before, Gus's current performance should still be graded to determine how he is performing.

2. To say that someone previously did not work out does not mean that someone else cannot do a good job.

3. The question is about what barometer/measuring stick does he use to judge his current play calling performance, not "please share the history of why you are now calling the plays instead of someone else."

Yeah, it's one of those things you'd love to ask and hear his response. If we, as fans see these things on the field, you bet the coaches see it. It's their logic I wanna understand. *Sigh*

I think it's fair and smart to evaluate all the time. It's not being spoiled, it's bringing up issues the coaches need to address that as fans, we would like to see.

I think, for me, getting used to a different style of offensive play is gonna be the biggest thing.

I think a bare cupboard is an opinion. Some coaches don’t know how to use all players correctly or have bias cloud judgement. Godfrey over Bortles and Shaq never playing for GOL stand out. There are countless guys never given chance or asked to do things that aren’t strong suits.

. Godfrey over Bortles
As true Freshmen, that was the right call...one guy was nearly a 4* recruit with a bunch of area records and the other guy was heavily recruited as a tight end but lightly as a QB.

Alot of younger guys undervalue beating freakin Georgia in a bowl game....thanks Jeff

Godfrey was 16/29 for 117 yards and 2 INTs. 10 rushes for 20 yards in that game. Would the other QBs do that much worse?

If it wasn't for his play all year, we don't get close to a conference championship and that bowl win.

Remember, Calabrese was the starter the first couple of games....and sucked as always. Keene as a Frosh, much better than Calabrese.

Wow it is amazing how spoiled we have become in the QB thing. We had a true freshman QB thrown to the wolves and did a good job managing the game and not turning the ball over. You really cannot ask much more than that. KZ did not do as much his freshman year. DG did better with a better supporting cast. MK did start to show a few new looks by the end of the season. For anyone to question our coaches over that is a bit off kilter IMO.

At the time, UCF Nation was the go to page on Facebook. A few guys the whole year were saying Bortles was better but wasn’t used. No way to know but he ended up better.

Bortles wasn’t around in 2010. Why wouldn’t you start the QB who helped guide your team to an 11-3 season the next season? They split time in 2011 when it was obvious that Bortles had some higher-level skill at the QB position over Godfrey (and I believe Godfrey might have started having his off-field issues as well). I’d call that scenario good judgement…..and yes, there are always kids mis-used or asked to play a position that may not be best suited for their skills.

They were same class. It took an implosion for him to give Bortles a chance. He never gave Shaq a chance and he was going to quit football or transfer. There are probably thousands of kids whose careers were ruined because coaches wouldn’t play them.

I would ask him how much he's going to rely on the transfer portal to fill out next season's roster. As good as the current recruiting class looks it's only 15 recruits, and we're losing (or have already lost) dozens of players. O-Line and D-Line stand out because several freshmen and sophomores transferred so there's not much there to replace the seniors.

Jeff is a case study for a dual threat QB with a thin body type who doesn't learn not to take a beating. He was not the same guy physically in 2011, who was also unable to develop better passing skills. I see that in Timmy McClain.

I think GOL was just too old school to think Shaquem could succeed...he said as much in an interview I recall. Good for Frost and Chins giving him other things to try to find a fit.

Meh, everybody is in that boat of having to shed numbers. Going to take creativity. Maybe he can get 1 or 2 of our OL to go for a 6th year. 3 promising OL recruits...and pick up a transfer or two (tried once with the guy from Lamar who FSU swiped).

We have to lose a bunch of guys. Going from 100 to 85 on roster. That’s 15 plus the 15 recruits. 30guys have to leave by graduation, Declare for draft or transfer.

He didn’t dominate the game for sure. I remember him being gimpy after the first drive, though. Anyone else recall that?

Defense won the game. Held UGA to 6 points. Mikey Keene has a chance to beat UGA doing that.

Yes he was.....took a redshirt.
Ok. So he redshirted and didn’t accumulate any stats for 2010. sports-reference.com didn’t show any stats for 2010. I thought the site typically still lists the year and indicates “RS”. Still…was probably the best thing that could have happened to him. Again, another good coaching decision in that instance.

You don’t know because he didn’t play. Coaches play favorites and have bias. Happens all the time. At every level.

My question would be:

1) There are some dudes on some message boards that have Gator friends and are worried about the backlash in case we lose. Would you be ok with maybe playing a MAC team in our bowl game instead of the Gators?? Thanks
