Much has been said about GOL not recruiting Florida but I thought it interesting and telling that of the top 100 players in Florida UCF had 3. No other non-P5 program even came close.

#14 Tristan Payton
#57 Rashad Causey

then #59 Deangelo Antonie - USF - First other non P5 and only USF recruit on the list

#68 Luke Hiers

you have to go to #78 to find the next non- P5 (supposedly one top 10 guy is going to Ga. Southern but he has not signed yet which tells me that he has issues)

The only other Florida Recruit is three star Taj McGowen who did not make the top 100 list.

So while UCF is not filling their roster with Florida recruits, the players they are taking from the state appear to be the top talent who are not going P5.

The argument that UCF is supposedly not recruiting well in Florida has nothing to back it up. Is it really that we're not recruiting well, or is it just that we're finding better players elsewhere thanks in part to increased exposure after the Fiesta Bowl victory? I don't get this logic that if most of our players aren't from Florida, that somehow means we're in trouble.

If I remember right, in a post NSD interview O'Leary said something like he tries recruiting the top 3 at a position in a state, then does the same in other states. So, I guess by that it means he doesn't "mine" Florida like some want him to, he tries to get the best from whatever states he can.

The problem with that is when those coaches leave we no longer have connections. That is why you want to also recruit locally so the pipeline forms even when the coaches leave.

I think the point is that we do recruit locally and we are successful at getting the top level talent that does not go to P5. If we did not have connections then we would not be getting that top level talent. Our coaches also are able to go elsewhere to pick up recruits which they like.

If the connections are with the coaches it does not matter where you recruit. When the coach leaves the pipeline closes.

As long as we got Coach O'Leary we have the I-75 corridor to Atlanta.**
