Recruiting Update Thread

Official visits are done for the Summer. The month of June is where most OVs take place. There will be some official visits during the season but those are few as coaches are busy preparing for games and can’t provide sufficient attention to the visitors.

The end of this month and July will be a busy time for commitments. With only 11 commits and plenty of de-commitments, UCF doesn’t have much momentum going on.

I am not familiar with any of the guys that visited UCF this last weekend but those linked below probably are the ones that UCF has a good shot at landing.

There’s the kid committed to Syracuse that also visited but Fran Brown and the Orange are trending up…probably have more money to offer as well. I don’t see him flipping to UCF.

So yeah…keep an eye on the recruits linked below.

Absolutely. He was rated low because he use to be DB but has speed and potential to be a good one. We have a gazillion DBs. We need a lot more competition at LB position. We take chances on players who were injured their senior year of H.S. football as well.

Under prior coaches who could spot potential we had multiple 2 stars having good NFL careers. We shouldn't rest upon star ratings alone.
At the lower levels I agree with you....because 2 star kids are about all you can get. At the P4 level, you need to start with better ingredients.

We have some room for a few projects here and there, but this class is shaping up horribly....we are currently ranked 62nd on Rivals....among 64 P4 teams. With a new energized staff replacing one that just phoned it in these results look even worse.

But Frost and his army of analysts are going to coach whip these D2 transfers and no stars into Big 12 gang busters.

Do you think there might be a strategy behind it?

Yes. Strategy is accept commitments from whoever is desperate enough to pledge and say "once a Knight always a Knight" when they flip elsewhere. It has worked so far for Frost and his army of analysts. I checked Rivals, and there's a ton of no stars UCF can still pursue.

No, I don't
So what do you think it means? Players don't want to come to UCF? UCF can't compete money wise? None of the staff are good at recruitment? What do you think the problem is. Every player who visits seems to love the staff and the experience.

UCF is not a brand program. UCF is in a two season losing streak and hired a guy on a five season losing streak. Frost mostly hired coaches with a bad reputation. UCF doesn’t have money for recruits. The only good recruiter is Kenny Martin.

Money I believe is an issue, and think the staff might not have any Florida/Georgia/Alabama connections....but going from like an average of five 4* players per year down to zero looks like an epic fail. We started seeing this in the Spring portal, guys that should have wanted to come here just didn't.

It’s probably money, but for some reason, Terry and the radio guys are going around saying we have money and are in a better position than most itger schools including instate. Yet they are getting recruits highly rated and we are going after Liberty recruits.

I would have thought money too but that in not what Terry is saying. It seems to me they are going after lower stars. Perhaps they believe they will have a better chance of keeping them? Those who come for a visit speak very highly of the staff and the culture. I don't know why a 4 star player wouldn't want to come here unless it's a money issue. If that's not the case then something else is going on.

I’m not sure why they are aiming low. In AAC we were going against bigger schools and getting guys. My only guess is they are waiting for Portal next year and going all in with whatever money they are claiming to have.

We need to stop recognizing stars on the recruits plates. I remember years back when North Miami Beach had a five star defense back (went to UM) and two other kids from the same backfield were one and two stars. The five star ended up working at a car wash and the one n two stars played eight years each in the NFL.

Have faith in Frost and Charge on.

EVERY year there is overwhelming evidence that the star system works building the most good players. Are there high star players that fail and low stars that succeed? Yes, but they are the exceptions and impossible to predict.

It is no accident that the teams at the top of the P4 have a high % of 4 and 5 star players.

It’s all impossible to predict with a great minority of exceptions. I have faith in Frost.
