I think this is how I would have felt during the communist scare. Honestly, and not for the reasons the POTUS intended.. We're now blaming an entire swath of the politics spectrum, and anyone who votes for it, for all the country's ills.
And we're not doing it in a political forum, but as the Executive ... labeling them as the biggest threat to democracy ... in how people think and vote. Maybe, just maybe, instead ... we should focus on the issues with extreme partisanship in general, and why not trusting your fellow American neighbors is leading to the biggest problems. Let's stop labeling, blaming and outlawing people and ideas ... for starters.
And lets get away from this 'Ministry of Truth' concept that is, itself, just the biggest misinformation spreader, while not following the law in requiring expert discord and public debate. Even the CDC has now joined the ATF and EPA in not following the law, all while the FDA has lost its top experts the past year-plus, and even the judicial system is tired of it too. Hence why it's not shocking that our own government keeps losing lawsuits over Constitutionality and due process again and again and again.
Vote all the bums out. We have the power to end this. Stop voting for this non-sense. Vote for those who believe in the Constitution and Law and that's definitely not the people labeling, blaming and otherwise screaming "Threat to Democracy! ... Please Give Us More Power to Silence Them!"

I am a Gen Xer and I saw Star Wars in 1977 at the Altamonte Mall Duplex in Dolby Stereo ! I was 10 . As a 10 year old I saw the film through the lens of the much celebrated Bicentennial and the Saturday morning School House Rock. I knew what the cold war was and I scared $hitkess of a Russian Bear Bomber dropping the bomb on us . Maybe not $hitless but you get the point. It was crystal clear the Empire was a blend of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany to me. The dark side was greedy, it was power hungry and wanted to rule over all dominion . I got that as a kid and the Rebels were to me the folks of the American Revolution. They were for freedom , goodness and the Republic . I can not fir the life of me figure out how the lefties in America turned this all around 20-30 years ago and made their side the Rebels and the Conservatives the Empire ? Who truly lusts for power and ruling over everyone? Who loves the mandates and lockdowns ? Who wants to regulate every aspect of our lives except for sex ? Who is for Big central authority ? I look at DC as a failure when it comes to civil rights, rule of law, depending the individual and our liberty. All other duties are reserved to the states and the people. It's all laid out in black and white. The parties have gone off the rails . My youngest was born in 2001 and our debt was $1 trillion dollars . That's $1 trillion from 1791 to 2001. In his 21 years the debt has soared to $32 trillion . It's not sustainable. It's going to crush us all, Republicans, Democrats , Independents, gay and straight, black and white, religious or atheist . We are all going to suffer from this spending and we already are suffering from it . Inflation isn't going to get better any time soon. We are headed for fiscal destruction and it's the 435 elected people in DC driving that train, all of them

I had a discussion the other day with a long time friend who I think doesn't vote or see the world as I do. We were talking about how toxic the political environment is today and I lay some of the blame on the internet and social media and even the the media . He tended , like you blame conservative media and I said there is the problem isnt there ? We should seek the truth and truth isn't Republicans or Democrats ,it's neither and the fact we have a divided media only sows the divide further. It only perpetuates the problem . I don't trust traditional media because they have a clear agenda . I moderately trust conservative media but they too have an agenda.

Obama, Trump and now Biden just don't care. They are spending what we cannot afford even with 90%+ tax rates on the top 2%, and 50%+ on the middle class.
I've yet to find any European socialist colleague that disagrees. And most of them have been 'canceled' by our shared (or former) Progressive colleagues.
