Rick Scott vetoes UCF downtown campus money.

So sad. This could have really helped UCF as well as the redevelopment of Orlando in general. Terrible decision.

Hitt and Co were expecting this IIRC. 15 million is really that much to overcome for a project like this. It will still happen.

USF got $30M through for similar projects.

The "claimed" rationale is that the downtown campus didn't go through a traditional Board of Governors ranking process. It's notable that the UCF downtown funding was included by the Republican Senate President from Orlando. Scott pissed off a lot of his own party today.

That said, cuts will happen and it's not fair to complain only when they hit your preferred projects.

$15 million was only a portion of a $60m project and the other $45m hasn't been allocated yet. So he kicked the can down the road. If the legislature had done their job earlier in the year instead of noodle knocking around in the corner, then this wouldn't have even been an issue. And UCF didn't really need the state money, they were asking to see if they could get it to save time. Your Buddy the mayor will just reallocate things and make it happen which is why he nixed the money going to the Performing Arts Center that came back into the budget from the soccer stadium.

Ole Buddy boy wants to put UCF beholden to him so that he can annex the campus and surrounding areas to fatten the tax base. Getting the downtown campus is the start to that for him.
