I been following UCF baseball for the past 20 years and had two sons play at UCF. Rooney is all talk, not respected by his players or peers. He has had plenty of time to produce a winner and hasn't. Danny White needs to complete the sweep of head coaches. Make it swift and take us out of our misery. Rooney's road is not leading to Omaha, but to the cellar in the American Conference,

I tend to agree. I don't wish him bad. But the program has stalled and now is stuck in the mud.

Totally agree with you MB. Those who are on the inside and have access to what the players really think know that what you say is true. Time for a change and those of us Baseball fans hope Danny White will do the right thing here. Perfect opportunity and again I think a coach with MLB ties will be able to move the program forward.

From the get-go he's been a great recruiter which I believe was his MO when we brought him on-board but he's been unable to get the results that previous coach had. We seem to fall into tournaments rather than be on an upward trajectory at end of season with him. No doubt he has a future as a recruiter but just has't evolved at HC.

While Jay Bergman had some great success when UCF was in the ASUN...he failed miserably when UCF moved into CUSA...as his conf records were:

2006: 5-19
2007: 7-17
2008: 8-16
----------------
20 - 52

Unfortunately, for most of TR's UCF career...he wasn't successful either (only had 3 winning conf records out of 8 seasons).

Better Stats...Mr. Stats...

Bergman had 8 championships in Div. I plus many NCAA tournament appearances;
Rooney had good years in 2010, 2011.

Now 5 years later... Guess your saying we may need bat boy hanki-panki to get a coaching change.

Bergman era (1983–2008)[edit]
Jay Bergman took over the program in 1983 after serving as the head coach at Seminole Community College. The Knights first season in Division I was in 1985 under Bergman. The Knights earned a 52–34–1 record in their first D–I season.[5] Bergman was forced to retire during the 2008 season after allegations surfaced of him harassing an equipment manager.[6][7]

Bergman had a large amount of success in this position, leading UCF to Atlantic Sun Championships in 93, 95, 96, 97, 00, 01, 02, 04 and NCAA Regional Appearances in 89, 93, 95, 96, 97, 00, 01, 02, 04, and brought UCF to a national ranking of No. 7 in 2001.[5] In honor of his long term success with the Knights, on February 3, 2001, UCF opened and dedicated Jay Bergman Field.

Rooney era (2009–present)[edit]
Terry Rooney became head coach in 2008 after serving as an assistant coach at LSU, Notre Dame, Stetson, Old Dominion, James Madison, and George Washington. In his second season, Rooney led the Knights to a 33–22 (10–14) record, 11 more wins than the prior season and the best conference record since the team started in Conference USA in 2006.[8] On June 21, 2010, Rooney signed a four-year contract extension with the university, making him the Knights head baseball coach through 2014.[9]

Following a 38–21 season, Rooney led the Knights to their first NCAA Tournament under his leadership in 2011.[10] The year was a high for the Knights, defeating the No 4. ranked Florida Gators in Gainesville and the then-ranked No. 5 Gators in Orlando. The Knights also defeated the No. 6 ranked Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee during the 2011 campaign.[11] In 2012, Rooney led the Knights to a No. 7 ranking during week ten, and an appearance in the Coral Gables Regional.

We cannot leave out the fact that Rooney's best years in 2010 and 2011 were done with a lot of Bergman's recruits. For example DJ Hicks and Shane Brown (I can't remember any others), two of UCF's stalwarts those years were part of the 2007 recruiting class and they came from Lake Brantley and Winter Springs respectively. If my memory serves me correct those were pretty veteran teams made up of guys who were already on campus when Rooney got here in 2008.

Too bad Bergman had to pretend to bugger a player with a baseball bat.

Baseball seems to be one of those sports that the conference does not really matter as much. Lots of good baseball in most conferences. That said, CUSA baseball was very good. Much better than ASUN. However, baseball seems to be standing still right now. I just question the wisdom of throwing a bunch of money at a new baseball coach when the success of the overall athletic program will ride on football and basketball. Fix those two first, then worry about baseball.

If they can get a new coach without spending more money, why not. Otherwise just hold fast.

I agree BUT.....if we kept all of our coaches because of these reasons.....well...need I say more? :)
Demanding change and getting nasty are two different things. Just saying Coach Rooney is a human being and a father. Let's respect that. That's all I'm saying. I agree he should be fired but I won't scream "FIRE HIM" at a UCF baseball game. No need to humiliate. Carry on.

The results really speak for themselves. He's had plenty of time to demonstrate what he can do.

FWIW, although baseball is not a huge part of any expansion decisions, this Big 12 Expansion Tour write-up on UCF notes the baseball program as a disappointment that really should not be this bad:

despite its talent-rich location, the baseball team tied for last in the AAC.

Indeed. It reflects poorly on us, not the coach.
