Rumor....GOL $200K/yr from 2016-2020

If that's how they convinces him to retire or it was in the contract...Ok.

Paying 1 million over 5 years to have him retire 4 games early doesn't make any sense. There must have been something in his contract. Who cares any ways.

George O'Leary will be paid $200,000 a year from 2016-20 to serve as a "special liaison" to the athletics department, according to a copy of his contract he agreed to release to the public after his retirement Sunday.

Wonder if he will actually have any pull as a consultant in this context? If so, one of his first recommendations should be to free up that 200,000 we're paying to a retired millionaire so that we can try to retain some quality assistant coaches. As he knows, the struggle to do so is real.

If it was you would you just hand back a million dollars...the answer is "no".

No. But I'm not a 70 year old millionaire claiming to be interested in the continued success of the program. Good for him for getting that into his contract. I just think there's some irony after years of crying poor mouth about losing good assistants to higher paying jobs that he would saddle the next regime with 4 years of a 200k salary for 12 hours of work per year.

They should make him coach the D-line for the next 5 years. Seriously.

First off, if stayed on and made Hitt fire him he gets 5mil plus the consulting fee. He did the honorable thing and retired, saving the school heartache and $$. The school should do the honorable thing and pay the 200k per year for 5 years like they agreed to do. For god's sake quit looking for reasons to be pissed off.

You have what you wanted, he is gone, and even with Key's payoff, it cost less than 2mil. UCF got off cheap.

We did get off cheap. Look at USF.. those guys were paying Leavitt and Holtz for a while there.

People want to hold on to GOL and Key just to complain and whine.

He would still be a good D-line coach.
