What we know is that intelligence agencies intercepted Saudi officials' communications discussing strategies for luring Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia where he would be detained.

There has been no official word regarding who this intelligence information was shared with. But retired intelligence officials say that this type of info regarding an American journalist would normally be shared with the highest levels of the Government as well as brought to the target's attention.

But like my odds of winning tomorrow's Mega-Millions, there's always a chance that this one was handled differently for entirely valid reasons that have yet to be revealed to the public.
