Until they allow beer to be sold in the stadium it will never remain full after halftime. I hate to boil it down to something that simple because I did stay for the entire Temple game myself but you can see the momentum die as the buzz rolls off. UCF is known as THE tailgate spot for Florida, better than ANY university in FL (or at least in an the discussion). This is what draws in recruits and new alumni. But, the crowd blows their load in the parking lot drinking before the game instead of a nice drinking pace, and by the time 2nd quarter rolls around a headache starts to take over our fan base. Its painfully obvious and I only see two viable options to solving this problem.

There is two ways to get people to stay:
1. Win your games and schedule P5 teams.
2. Sell beer in the stadium, 1 beer per person at $8-10 dollars and make it only 12 ounces. Makes money and keeps people happy.

It is really that simple.

How about legalize pot. Erect the GOL and Holman statues inside BHN stadium. Sell alcohol during halftime. Place bars outside BHN and allow re-entry. Need gigantic Times Square sized billboards and sell ads. Pays for itself. Add more luxury seats and place a canopy on top of the cabana section. Free aspirin.

How about a giant GOL hookah with the hoses coming out of his pants? Two birds.

They should certainly look to continue improving the food and beverage situation. Partnering with local breweries is something many schools are starting to do. We definitely need options for people to stay and have a drink in the stadium if they are of age and so choose.

Agreed. I had a designated driver. I could have used a beer in the 3rd quarter during those boring ass TV timeouts. I was thinking I would rather be on my couch watching it on TV instead. oh well. One of these days they will figure it out. It is a major drunkfest outside the gate. They are losing money and the surrounding beer stores are killing it. Like drinking/drinkers or not, UCF is losing a revenue stream. Don't they have a business degree program there and calculate loss of money? I'm just an engineer and see that. Go Knights.

The beer sales could probably pay for the luxury seats...

But seriously, people are either going to not come at all or leave early. After the Big 12 news today I dont see us changing conferences anytime soon. Better accept the fact we are going to be playing Tulsa, Tulane (yawn), Temple etc. mixed in with a few decent games. People will continue to not go to the game as enjoy the tailgate.

I used to be against beer sales inside College Football stadiums but with attendance trending down with the A.D.D. Generation I think it is needed to help UCF draw casual fans. Even Blue blood Ohio State decided to start selling beer stadium-wide starting this season

I agree with the OP. The crowd showed up late and left at halftime. The buzz faded after a quarter and a half. The athletic dept is missing out on a great opportunity. They under stand the problem. They have a beer garden with unlimited beer before the game. Then you sit in the stadium and sober up.

The experience needs to be improved! Youre right some of the games aren't going to be exciting unless we're hoping for a win to be bowl eligible. Tulane may not be exciting unless we have 5 wins and we're looking for that sixth. We need more alcohol, more technology, gigantic billboards, towering ads, more hotels nearby, conveyor machines to move the fans faster. whatever it takes to bring and keep the fans in the game. BHN Stadium in and around needs to be a spectacle. The football game will eventually be the focus.

This isn't a joke.

I think the biggest draw is winning and being ranked. Beer in the stadium doesn't really help USF (unless it does help and then we are really screwed).

I didn't even think of that from your perspective. I can only imagine that it does help get and keep some people in the door, but the advantage is definitely offset by not being on campus/your own place to call home.

USF has stadium wide beer sales and winning but it hasnt helped them. (Actually crowd for their game on Saturday Night was 19,500 while their Homecoming game the week before was 16,500.

Home game records for last 9 games:

USF 8-1
UCF 1-8

Yea...like UCF not scoring since 3 minutes into the second quarter had anything to do with people leaving early.

I went to my first game at BHN Stadium Saturday for homecoming. Even talking a few old fraternity brothers into coming into town and going to the game with me for their first time at BHNS as well.

It wasn't our pregame buzz wearing off that made our butts start to hurt sitting in (on) our seats...it was feeling the energy sucked out of the stadium, one painful minute at a time, as the 'final' 42 MINUTES of the game clock 'ticked away' and UCF could not put a point on the board....as Temple ate away at our lead. Might go back to next homecoming game, but won't be back until at least then....beer or no beer in BHNS.

BTW...we watched the final catch with one second on the clock...then went to our cars and finished our beer...

"then went to our cars and finished our beer..." You guys should have gone to BurgerU. Watching the end of the Ohio State-Wisconsin game and going into overtime was pretty good.

Apples and Oranges. They don't have a fan base to begin with.

The team still had a lead on the defending East division champion until that final catch. It was disappointing to see the lead shrinking, but is that really a reason for people to leave? How could those people have ever sat through an entire GOL coached game? I've heard of leaving during a blowout win or loss or because you have responsibilities to tend to, but leaving because the team's lead (which they played some exciting football in order build in the 1st half) is shrinking and the game is getting even tighter seems odd to me. At least you guys stuck around even if you were feeling the disappointment of poor 2nd half play. If there was ever a season where we needed beer sales throughout the stadium it was surely 2015.

Need a yuge wall to keep the fans in. It will be big and beautiful and will make your head spin.

you are a bad fan then. You are seriously throwing in the towel on attending more than 1 game a season bc a brand new coach lost a heartbreaker to go 3-3 after taking over an 0-12 team?

If you are complaining about the energy of the team or offense being boring were you blacked out for the entire O'leary era?

You are probably one of those scarf wearing MLS guys

Yea...no doubt the first quarter was fun, as was walking through campus and the Memory Mall pregame. That was actually awesome. Really awesome as a matter of fact. This is from someone who last attended a UCF game at the Citrus Bowl.

But, it would have been one thing to watch the lead shrink as we scored once, they scored twice type of thing...It was just a feeling of 'doom' that started to creep in towards the end of the second quarter...a feeling my buds and I seem to know all to well.

idk even with the 2nd half meltdown watching Milton's 63 yard td run and big pass to T. Smith was already more entertaining than anything from the entire 2015 season. Even some of the past UCF bowl teams lacked those explosive highlight plays

Bad fan??...maybe...you have every right to your opinion regarding how I/we felt at the game.

Scarf wearing MLS fan??...nope...won't go near the citrus bowl since I am not sure that I would make it back to my car with my cell phone and wallet....as I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to bring my gun to the stadium.

Edit: And while I finally signed up to this site for the purpose of voicing my personal opinion on the subject of alcohol/no alcohol inside BHNS and the effect it has on fans staying the entire game, it was nice to be called a 'bad fan' and a 'Scarf Wearing MLS fan' within two hours of my first post by someone who appears to be a longtime and regular contributor to the site....carry on.

Tons of lighting have been invested to Church Street West as of late. I'd be in favor of railway from the Citrus Bowl to Amway Center though. Once the soccer stadium opens, safety will improve.

apologies. that was bit harsh, I got #triggered that was considered boring when UCF had many seasons of 3 yards & a cloud of dust. Board needs new blood

So you hadn't been to a UCF game since 2006 or prior...and if UCF added general beer sales to BHNS...you might increase your UCF home attendance by going to 2 games over the next 11 years?

Since this was your first game at BHNS...UCF added ANOTHER premium club that sales alcohol (and provides free food) just last season, Cabana Club...(West Side Club has always served booze since Game 1 in 2007).

Sounds like you and your fellow frat boys should have bought tix in either one of those clubs (available thru UCF or secondary market) and then you wouldn't have to sign up to register for a fan website to complain about finally attending your first ever game at UCF's on-campus stadium that opened in 2007.

Sigh...no where did I say beer sales or lack thereof played any role in our attendance...or how long we stayed at the game. If you would be so kind to point me to where I did say that, I would appreciate it.

My post was in response to the OP saying they need to sell beer to keep people in the stadium...to which I replied a better way to keep people in the stadium would be to score a point or two in the last 42 minutes of a game.

I see you have 100K+ post on this board. Do you ever take the time to actually read others than your own?

I agree the energy was sucked out of the stadium, that is because people left!!!!!! After the 1st quarter, a small group of student left, and by halftime over half the stadium had emptied out. By the time the 3rd quarter ended, the stadium was dead silent and probably around 10k remained.
Imagine being a player, you come out on fire lighting up the scoreboard, only to look up and see your fans slowly trickling out or the ones that remain now have a blistering headache and are dead quiet.

This really isnt that tough of a decision, make money + improve attendance? I think everyone is for that.

I get what you're saying, even though it's coming from a totally different perspective than most people on the board. This board can have an echo chamber effect. Most of us go to the games because we follow the narrative of this team intensely. We commit dollars up front in donations and season tickets. We use the team's travel dates as an excuse to get the wife to allow us to book a vacation to places we've never been to before. When the team is in the 4th quarter with a lead - that's enough to get most of us excited to stick around and get loud even if the offense has disappeared and let the other team back in it. I appreciate when a defense is starting to get exhausted because they are on the field most of the game and they find that last gasp of energy to make a big stand and force a FG try. I can see why someone with only a casual interest in it would find it boring, though.

UCF attendance has been pretty good relative to our place in the sport despite playing some downright ugly football at times (even in winning). We'd like to get it to the level that it's reliably the best homefield advantage in the G5. That's not a far-fetched goal given the size of the University, ever-growing alumni base, and current standing. The hiring of Danny White and Scott Frost is geared towards creating a more exciting product so that more people such as yourself will buy a ticket and enjoy themselves and keep coming back. I've noticed improvement in excitement. Hopefully it continues to improve.

First off, thank you for your commitment to UCF. I wish most fans were like you (I only attend home games with my season tix and have been to a few bowl games).

But this post is not meant for you. The die-hard UCF base will be there rain or shine and we know that. This is for the fans that dont show/leave early and grew up as Gator or FSU fans. We MUST get them in the stadium and keep them there, that is how you create a brand and memories. We must get more creative in how we get people (and keep) them in the stadium because what we are doing is not working. The same thing has been happening since I graduated from UCF.

You don't attend every practice, bro? #notatrufan. LOL. No, seriously, season tickets and trying to get to bowl games when you can is a great commitment. I couldn't swing it right after graduation. Everyone has a unique situation. I'm lucky enough to be at a point now with a little disposable income, no kids, free time on weekends, and a wife that allows it. If you follow the team's progress and attend and watch games when you can - that's awesome. There's going to be more and more of us contributing what we can as this alumni base gets older and more stable.

All that said, I want to be able to have a beer in the stadium if I so choose without moving to a club level situation.
