Too bad the prosecutor overreached with wanting to subpoena family members banking information. This would have been an easy 9-0 decision that could have become usable case-law. Good ruling, regardless.
How could anyone possibly argue we shouldn't see the POTUS tax records? Blows my mind people are ok with that sort of corruption.
Stop giving the president so much power and it wouldn't matter.

Every other presidential candidate that I remember in my whole life voluntarily gave up their taxes and it was never used against them even when they were at odds with the opposite party. I'm almost certian this dudes taxes are a disaster and so is everyone else. The people who want them released know it can be used against him politically and the people who dont want them released object to it because it can be used against him politically.
The consensus seems to be that the taxes are bad enough that both sides have taken a strong stand because of the damage it will do to Trump. Thats enough for me to be concerned about what the hell is in there.

I think the fact that he has balked at this continually and gone out of his way to keep this out of the public's eye is telling.
It's kind of like GOL in 2015 when he refused to let anyone know the details of his contract. People figured something was up. And then he resigned and we found out that he was, in fact, in the last year of his contract.
I think he just likes having it as a distraction and as a power play. There's very little that can be learned from tax returns.
Who knows. I don't think you go to the lengths he has to block the public from seeing them, however.
On the flipside of that, with all the leaks in the federal government in the last 4 years, you'd think that they would've leaked if they had anything controversial in them.
Well, flip that and say if there is nothing controversial, then show them, Donald.
I could care less whether he shows them or not. I'm guessing that they aren't going to provide any smoking bullet with foreign nations. They'll just allow the media to crow about him being an evil rich person, or him not being as rich as we all thought, or that he's evil because he doesn't pay his "fair share" in taxes due to applying all of the applicable tax laws and rules. How does any of that benefit the country?
Just spitballing I wonder if Its bigger Than him. I’m sure he’s used every corporate tax loophole possible to get breaks because who wouldn’t. But the problem with him releasing them and being questioned is if he has to explain those loopholes they get closed and impact not only him but all big corporations who use them.

If I had to guess, I'd say there's probably a bit more than that and that's why he's done his best to keep this out of the public's eye. I could be wrong but I don't think so...

Write a law that says the IRS has to release all of the tax records on nominees if they are on the ballot in more than 30 states. Pretty simple solution. No more controversy. It would be challenged but there's no way that SCOTUS would use the 4th amendment on this.
Why stop there? Let's get their employment files and their college transcripts as well. Let's also make public the files and notes on every clearance investigation they ever underwent. We will definitely need access to all of their health records.
Oh, and since most politicians use their families to do their bribery, uh I mean totally legal, not shady, money-making, schemes, let's get the financial records of all of their families as well. We need to be absolutely sure that no one has bought and paid for any candidate.
Not what they said at all. Sending it back to lower courts to look at the issue of immunity again. Said the executive does not have unlimited protection, nor does the congress have an unlimited right to see things.
Will tied up in the lower courts another couple of years before any records will be released, if they are released.
Lol at people who still don’t get it. Every president releases tax returns. There is literally no reason not to if everything is on the up and up. I had to submit my tax return to get a refinance home loan but the tax return of the President is this big secret. I’m sure he doesn’t want to be outed as being less wealthy than Kanye.
I mean when any joe blow applies for a professional job, they are subject to scrutiny about their level of education and work history. But the president should be immune? Why?
People are asked what they majored in or what their past work history is, and how it relates to the required skills of the job.
Employers do not ask where they went and when, with a motivation to go back and find anyone/everyone you interacted with to find someone willing to say something to condemn you and selectively create the case for them not to hire you. Or to pull your term papers or test scores and insinuate that they're finding evidence of cheating or plagiarism.
If someone doesn’t want their financial history, employment history, or education history scrutinized by the public, a good alternative is to not run for public office. Trump works for us, not the other way around. The general public is in essence his employer. The fact that other presidential candidates willingly release this information but this president doesn’t sets off red flags. Trump is hoping his little “never-ending audit” lie that he got his followers to take hook line and sinker will last him until he’s no longer President or 6 feet under. To this point it has worked.
It depends on the job and the thoroughness of the process that the employer takes. But your education history is not some off limits area when applying for a job and they do ask for professional and sometimes educational references which they contact. And yes if there was evidence of cheating and the school knew and had on record, that information would be available.
Except that people used the fact that Romney was wealthy against him in this left-biased media world. Trump would be even worse. there won’t be any Russian collusion found in his taxes so they’ll just use them to spin the narrative that he’s a rich, out of touch, billionaire or that he’s not as rich as we think he is and say he’s been lying to everyone all along. There’s no benefit to him releasing them and we aren’t really going to learn anything relevant to our voting either that the last 4 years haven’t shown us.
The fear of “people using it against him” isn’t sufficient justification for hiding information from the people who are his employer.
