Should the media work with the government to craft narratives?

It kind of depends. If it is just exchanging information then I have no issue with it. If it is actually telling newsrooms what to say, then yes that crosses a line.

That's what press briefings are for. Meeting in private to craft the reporting probably crosses the line.

It depends. Government officials meeting with the press is nothing new. Now if the press is taking orders, for lack of a better word, from government officials that's a different thing.

Dana Milbank took to the WaPo yesterday to literally demand that the media act even more as a DNC PR outfit, and made the hilarious suggestion that the media were easier on Trump than they've been on Biden.

He said that the media reporting on disasters occurring on Biden's watch is akin to "letting Democracy die" and that they should knock it off and constantly praise him.

His piece got praise and adoration on blue check mark lefty Twitter.

The question is, does anyone really believe that the White House wasn't behind the writing of this piece?

The first amendment exists and carves out a special right for a free and INDEPENDENT press. Currently we have a free press but they are far from independent. The overwhelming majority are flat out progressive advocasy outlets. In large part it's like a corporate Pravda . so, they can meet with the White House but should they ? No . just report the facts of the events of the day . Report objective truth and it would fine ,but they report their agenda and will spin any economic data. They will hype what ever good and downplay what ever bad for this President . where as they would down play the good and hype the bad from the previous Administration. just give us the facts good, bad and indifferent.

I take it not enough outlets act like Fox News?

Oooooooooh, you want an INDEPENDENT press to give you good ole' hard FACTS, good, bad, and indifferent?

Facts like:
  • Biden won the election?
  • Trump tried for two months to overturn the will of the people?
  • Trump amping up his followers to create a scene at the Capitol on January 6th so that Congress couldn't certify the EC vote?
How do those facts work for you flag-waving, true-blue Democracy-loving patriots? :)

TDS is still strong with this one.

Oh, so those AREN'T FACTS?......they're 'TDS'??!?

Hey 85 and NautiKnight!!!
Tell me again that what we really need a free INDEPENDENT press so we can get to the FACTS.
The thread was about the media and government working together, then you immediately go off on a Trump tangent because of TDS, as usual. What Trump did is irrelevant to the thread.

Hey Shuck,my current President is Joe Biden. he won . Move on. I can't stand my Presidents policies his family ties to China, Russia and Ukraine nor do I think he is any bit right in regards to energy policy. I can't figure that one out all . Kill American energy production , approve of Russian pipelines and then when oil prices double in six months he begs opec for increases in production. Yet all he has to to is rescend executive orders signed on day 1 to fix the energy.

I have said it before and will say it again. The idiots storming the capital should be prosecuted. ok . How much more do you want ?
I don't wave the flag . We live in a Constitutional Republic not a democracy.
I don't like the Republican party or the Democrat party but I loathe the press.

This thread is about having the executive branch essentially have a meeting to develop propaganda regarding the economy that is showing signs of sputtering . They want the press to spin it . I think every administration wants stuff spun .

We don't have an independent press. lulz if you think we do.

You think the press is independent...can I stop laughing now?
Okay Sir Laughalot, answer me this:

Did our 'liberal' press lied to us about the election results and all of the Trump White House-orchestrated efforts in its aftermath to defy the will of the people?
