The bulk of UCF's 2015 recruiting class will officially report on Tuesday, but one signee will not be among them.
Lake Wales center Luke Hiers will "grayshirt" and enroll next January as he continues to rehab from spring shoulder surgery.
"Rehab is going good," Hiers said Monday via text. "Every Tuesday and Thursday I go up and do rehab at the school. It's all good. I should be ready by January."
Grayshirting injured players is a common practice. Wide receiver Chris Davis signed in 2014, but ACL surgery pushed back his enrollment to this past January. Several years ago, offensive lineman Chris Martin deferred enrollment after shoulder surgery.
Hiers committed to UCF last September following an initial pledge to Kentucky. Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska, NC State, USF and Syracuse were among his other offers.
A pair of 2015 signees - quarterback Bo Schneider and defensive end Monte Taylor - enrolled in May for Summer A. So did defensive back Mike Rogers, a 2014 signee who needed a bit more time to attain eligibility. Running back Taj McGowan was a December high school graduate and enrolled in January.
