I know everything is different now and I love it! But I can't help thinking about these similarities to the 2010 team:

1) Strong Defense (Liberty Bowl 10-6)
2) Talented True Freshman QB

Difference is McKensie does everything he can to stay behind the line of scrimmage (yes, sometimes it got him into trouble). Jeff ran for yardage often out of bounds with no or little gain once they figured out his tendency to run quickly.
I think Maryland's strategy was to contain and spy Milton. Their coach is a supposed defensive genius, remember. Still, I was expecting Milton to try to take off. Perhaps Frost had been schooling him in not giving up on the pass.

for a young QB he seemed to keep his eyes down the field as long as possible which is a good sign

GOL had no faith and vision in Godfrey. Blake apparently was his guy all along.
McKenzie knows that Frost isnt going to turn this into pro style next year.

He started Godfrey out of the gate. The following year he gave him too long of a rope. In retrospect Blake should have started from beginning. But that's revisionist thinking.

Just the opposite.
Godfrey got to play in the 2nd half of his first game, and by game 4 he was permanent starter, replacing Calabrese. GOL stuck with Godfrey almost entire next season despite Bortles increasing effectiveness.
Godfrey supporters on this board were upset when O'Leary finally had seen enough and pulled Jeff.
But up until that, O'Leary was partial to Godfrey's style of a running QB and against Bortles' pro style game.
The ONLY reason GOL stuck with Calabrese as long as he did was because he was a running QB!
Finally, even after Bortles became starter and star, O'Leary was always pushing him to run more and use the option.

Lies! GOL and Taffee seemed to have no issue with the pistol offense. Then In 2011, they wanted him to stay in pocket more which affected his game and led to the rise of Bortles who was fine with the pro style stay in the pocket majority of the time offense.
Which leads back to the difference between McKenzie and Godfrey. They aren't going to tell him to stay in the pocket more and they will not force him to play something entirely different. While GOL gave Godfrey a chance, they pulled the rug from under him offensive style wise. With McKenzie, he went here expecting the Oregon offense and they won't change to pro style unless Frost leaves and they replace him with another GOL.

Uncle Luke?

The defense was better in 2010, but I can see the comparison. We lost to both regular season BCS opponents and relied heavily on the run game. Although, we didn't run a high school offense in 2010. Oh well.

I think Blake worked out pretty well (massive understatement). Can't blame a coach for rolling with the guy that went in the 1st round of the NFL draft. Godfrey is not a starting QB in the NFL.

No issue with Blake whatsoever but my point stands and that McKenzie shouldnt expect a dramatic change in offense like Godfrey did.

Im confused you bring up Uncle Luke. So that means Godfrey was now useless because of him? All i'm saying is as long as Frost is coach, McKenzie won't have to deal with a staff that wants to do pistol formation one day and pro style the next.

Rewritting history. Without googling I believe Bortles was a later offer and wasn't the handpicked "Oleary guy". Coach Taaffe and Collins recruited Blake then GOL wanted him to move to TE. You don't try to get your handpicked QB to change positions once he gets On Campus.
