Is this good or bad for the conference?

On one end, this would be a great story and would give a lot of publicity to the conference.

At the other end, SMU going undefeated could knock out a team or 2 from postseason play.

FYI SMU was banned bc a administrative assistant helped / cheated to a recruit eligible to play. Then Larry Brown lie about it.

It doesn't matter if they were able to go undefeated because they will have won zero NCAA tourney games. Sure, a regular season AAC title is the first priority for any program but the measurement of success in college basketball is the tournament.

How they and Miami get free passes to cheat is beyond me.... The NCAA is the biggest joke institution I've ever seen.
