...on my way to Stillwater. Fly in on a Tuesday afternoon and fly out Wednesday afternoon. Any can't miss food spots? Any spots I should make it a point to avoid (other than Tulsa itself of course)?

Stay in Tulsa at the Hotel Ambassador. Its a little boutique hotel and it is freakin awesome!!! I've been lucky enough to travel all over the world. Stayed in many 5-star hotels and resorts. But this little hotel in Tulsa has an awesome vibe and feel to it that is difficult to explain. At least 3 times a year, I'll take a lady friend and stay a weekend there even though its only a few miles from my house. Here's the link:

About 1/2 mile from the Hotel Ambassador is the best BBQ you will ever have ... Burn Co. It was started by some guys who used to sell Hasty Bake Grills which are best grills known to man. Trust me, their BBQ is the best you will ever eat. Have to get there early. Line starts forming around 10:30 a.m. for lunch. They open the doors around 11 a.m. If not in line by then, you will not get in for lunch. Open a few select nights for dinner. Here's their FB page:

Thanks. I saw the Ambassador, but booked the Hyatt instead (due to status). I may rethink that based on your rec.

Tulsa Hyatt blows compared to Ambassador. I promise you will thank me once you stay there. And just think .. I have jizzed in every suite in that hotel.

By yourself? Put that recommendation in Kayak.

In that case I think I'll stick with my Hyatt reservation.

I'm sorry to hear about your 24 hour sentence in Stillwater. Just remember their city slogan, Stillwater, Still Minds.

Ambassador is a lock. The Hyatt is a dump. It's been a Westin, Crown Plaza and god knows what else. Another good alternative is the Mayo Hotel. I feel like a gangster staying there.

Close to campus, The Campbell is nice. Call ahead and tell them you don't want the Golden Hurricane room. We can't have you up all night with nightmares of 2005, can we?

Burn Co is a must. Change your plans if you can't make a 10:45 lunch work. It's worth the wait.

Kilkenny's for a pint and good Irish pub grub.

McNellies for people watching and beer on tap.

Catch a Drillers game if they are in town. Always fun and a fairly new ball park.

Fassler Hall for German beer hall style drinking.

Arnie's if you want a taste of old school, Larry Clark style Tulsa.

There's a casino or twelve within driving distance, if that's your thing.

Lots going on downtown, even mid week. It's not as compact and crowded as Church St/Orange Ave., but there is more variety. Just ask the concierge and they will set you up.

Pour out a bit of a pint of Choc for me!

Thanks, Huffy. I ended up booking a room at the Ambassador. With my Marriott status they agreed to let me take a blacklight into every room ever registered to Barrister to see which one glows the least.

Not sure that I can make a 10:45 lunch at Burn Co work. I get into Tulsa at 1pm on Tuesday and leave at 12:30pm on Wednesday. That said, is Tulsa an easy airport to get in and out of (I have TSA Pre-Check so security shouldn't be an issue)? I may be able to swing a takeout order on my way to the airport.

really check the couches and chairs. I've always liked bending bitches over furniture.

This is Oklahoma. Which is better than Mayberry. Go straight there after you get off the plane. Order what's left on the menu if anything. Explain to cashier and/or manager that you are from out of town and the plane situation. Chances are good they'll make arrangements to get you a plate at 10:45 so you can get to the airport. Calling ahead will likely lead to the same success.

Burn Co usually runs out of food by 1 p.m. Rather than make more, they just close when the food is gone. Most everything is slow roasted so they refuse to cook quickly just to sell it. Best BBQ on the planet.

I won't go that far. It is far better than anything available here in Florida. By comparison, 4 Rivers is disgusting. I've told the owners that to their faces. It would be pretty good if they owned up to the fact that you need a real pit to make Texas BBQ. What they've got is a really good Florida restaurant doing an interpretation of entirely an different type of cooking. Owner lady: "Megan told me you wanted to make a comment." Huffy: "The food is good. I like it a lot." Her: "Thanks." Huffy: "One question. Would you call baked chicken a rotisserie chicken?" Her: "No." Huffy: "Then why do you put pictures on the wall of BBQ, call this a BBQ place, but don't use a pit?" Her: Blinks without responding. Walks away.

BBQ in Tulsa has slid way down in the last 15 years, imo.

Burn Co. stacks up favorably against anything you'll get in Kansas City, Austin, or Lockhart.

Best anywhere? Not the last two or three times I've been there since they moved to the new location.
