Let's cool it on the revisionist history just a little here. Benghazi and the emails are one thing, but blaming Obama and Hillary for ISIS is ridiculous. ISIS was created due to a combination of the power vacuum left in Iraq after the Iraq War, the Arab Spring, and the United States decimation of al-Qaeda.
Now i'm not an anti-war loon like some of the other leftist crazies around here. But I think most can agree that by 2008-11 it was time to get out of Iraq. There were no WMD's, Saddam had been removed, and it was obvious we weren't going to bring democracy to Iraq. All we were getting from being there were body bags with U.S. soldiers in them and when we left the power vacuum was filled by terrorists. Terrorists that didn't affect the U.S. until they were mobilized by a charismatic leader in Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Osama was dead and al-Qaeda's operatives were pretty much being picked off left and right by drone strikes. ISIS filled this void.
Now add in the Arab Spring. It was interesting. Populations of people calling for a change in their leadership. Massive demonstrations with real grievances (unlike BLM) against truly corrupt leadership that were met with violence. Government crackdowns against somewhat peaceful demonstrations was all ISIS needed to grow. Civil wars erupted in which the moderates were replaced by ISIS.
What would you have the U.S do? Support Assad and his indiscriminate brutality with the Russians? Or attack Assad and help the terrorists achieve their goals? We tried helping and arming the moderates, it didn't work. ISIS filled this void and took over land in Syria and Iraq. We are currently conducting bombings in Syria, Iraq, and now Libya. Without troops on the ground, this situation probably won't get any better. I'm not necessarily against using troops but hundreds to thousands of Americans will die fighting in the Middle East AGAIN. This is the real question: Are you prepared for that?
