No one wants to stay at UCF….always thought ‘This Place’ was special but the recent student athletes don’t agree

and it is a good way to kill interest in our women sports when the star of both the women’s basketball & softball teams transfer a week after the best season in a while/ever

I view it as finding the right fit as a student and a university. The upheaval within Women's Basketball is the result of the Head Coach moving on and in Maddie's situation, really comes down to family.

Times they are a changing..all we can do is support/root from season to season…Charge On!!!

There are athletes coming and going. It comes with the territory in this new NCAA transfer world. Some of our best student athletes have transferred in over the past few years and others have transferred out. But certainly the process is getting out of control and, unless it is reined in soon, will only get worse. Right now there's no such thing as a "special place" unless it has $$ attached. In other words, amateur athletics are quickly becoming semi-pro.

At least in football, semi-pro seems like the right term.

Growing up in amateur sports in the 80’s and 90’s, participating in international events, I heard the term “amateur movement” a lot. My sport was not a money maker but we all had amazing experiences and grew skills and life lessons that I lean on every day. This was possible because there wasn’t as big of a disparity between those with money and those without. It was there, sure, but it could be overcome and I was a testament to hard work overcoming money for most of my career.

The point of the amateur movement was that athletes could succeed based on their talent and work ethic on a nearly level playing field. Today it feels like commercialism has killed that movement. The sports that get attention (read those that have lucrative pro prospects) all have huge opportunity gaps between the haves and the have nots. The sports that don’t get attention are barely viable and the lack of participation means that legacies tend to rule. Where is that place that we saw in the early 80’s where sports was this awesome, amazing, special thing and we honored the sacrifice, the agony of defeat, and the joy of victory? Agh, I guess I’m just turning into an old man yearning for the days of yore.

No place is special with the new transfer rules.
