yes, they were colonized a hundred years or so ago by dutch/english/etc. Zimbabwe did something similar back in the 80s. they beg for food hand outs because they dont know how to grow their own food. the same will be said of south africa in 5 to 10 years from now.
Yep, South African is going the way of Zimbabwe, only it will be worse in South Africa.
Mandela is turning over in his grave.
Much of the early ANC's "Affirmative Action" plan started in the late '90s, but it was never intended to wholesale shift assets from the white affluent to the black affluent. It was designed to enable the workforce, trying to get blacks to same level of representation, around 70/30, as whites, as their population (and eventually equal levels of roles/pay after that).
Instead, it's become a way for the affluent black in South Africa to keep their existing benefits. I mean, we in the US have no perception of how bad it is. Affirmative Action has a negligible, if any, effect on the white American in the US overall . But in South Africa, it's really done nothing for the poor black at all, and has shifted a lot of things out of the hands of the white, middle class (beyond just the affluent).
It's the worst case nightmare that Mandela was trying to avoid when he first became President, and did everything he could to include white South Africans, while still push for true equalization in the workforce (again, first by percentage, then eventually, position/pay), starting late in his first term.
Because Mandela knew it would result in 2 things ...
- Lack of foreign investment, and
- Brain drain
Both of those are now happening, wholesale.
