Spring practice seems to have really flown by. We're already on Day 10. It's basically the rest of this week (Thursday and Saturday) and then just Tuesday that's open before the spring game on Saturday, April 18. There's a walk-through the day before that's closed that would be Practice #14.
Shorts and shoulder pads day. No contact. Not sure I've been updating the warm-up music, but this the last three days: Last Thursday was Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," Saturday's scrimmage was a repeat of John Fogerty's "Centerfield" which I believe was also played prior to the first scrimmage. Today it was Lynyrd Skyrnyd's "Sweet Home Alabama."
Some depth chart changes to note:
-We are back to the original first team at linebacker. It's Domenic Spencer returning to No. 1 middle linebacker (after a week on the second team) with Errol Clarke at sam and Chequan Burkett at will. Justin McDonald goes back down to second team. Speaking of that second team at linebacker, it's Maurice Russell at mike, Demetire Brim at sam and McDonald at will. Mark Rucker looks like he's third team when he had been second.
-There's a new first team safety. Jordan Franks was promoted to the first team, which sent Jared Henry down to second team. So your first team secondary at least right now is Franks and Drico Johnson at safety with Shaquill Griffin and D.J. Killings at corner. Kyle Gibson looks to be the nickel guy.
Typical practice stuff. Not a whole lot really jumped out, but I do continue to be impressed by Tre'Quan Smith. He will be UCF's No. 1 WR IMO. Pete DiNovo had a nice play, hauling in a pass amid heavy coverage from Kyle Gibson. Stanback and C.J. Jones had some nice runs. Looks like Jones is showing some things.
There was a big ole OL from California at the practice, 2017 prospect Wyatt Davis. Already got a bunch of high level offers. He's definitely 300 pounds and then some.
Had the opportunity to interview FB Joseph "Squat God" Puopolo for the first time today. Really enjoyable interview, the best one of the spring so far. Interesting story to how he got on the team, etc.
