Shorts again. It seems UCF's practices in shorts during the week and then goes full pads/contact on Saturdays.
Maybe GOL was more vocal today, but it did seem a little sloppier than usual. Dropped passes, turnovers, etc. He was getting on guys for improper technique, both on offense and defense.
Some highlights of the day:
-In tight coverage, CB Shaquill Griffin slapped down a pass intended for Tre'Quan Smith.
-CB Kyle Gibson picked off Nick Patti during skelly (7-on-7).
-CB Chris Williams dropped a ball that bounce off his numbers, should have been an easy pick. Pass came from Tyler Harris.
-S Tre Neal rejected a ball heading to WR Pete DiNovo.
-TE Cal Bloom had a series of catches, at least three. He's a big body out there.
-CB Chris Johnson (walk-on) picked off Nick Patti.
-S Tre Neal made the sheet again, picking off a Patti pass that was underthrown to a streaking TE Kevin Miller.
-RB Dontravious Wilson had the longest run of the practice. It was at least a first down run, but he galloped all the way to the end zone. It's hard to say on this stuff though because it's no-contact.
-Kicker Matt Wright nailed a field goal of more than 50 yards... was standing down the field at a weird angle so didn't see what yard they lined up on, but definitely 50 plus.
The following are observations from red zone, most times ball was snapped inside the 10. They were working on mostly passing plays here.
-Holman to Tre'Quan Smith for a TD in the back of the end zone. Smith has good size and length, the ball was perfectly placed where only Smith could get it.
-Defense had a blunder somewhere because Taylor Oldham was completely wide open in the corner of the end zone for an easy touchdown... nobody was within 10 yards of him.
-DE Thomas Niles was routinely blowing past the OL, putting pressure on either QB or the RB.
-Tre'Quan Smith had another nice haul in the end zone amid double coverage.
-Patti found WR Jordan Akins for a touchdown.
-Jared Henry caught himself an interception off a tipped ball thrown by Holman.
-Cedric Thompson was the recipient of a TD as well.
Heard Saturday may or may not be a full scrimmage like the past two weeks (maybe more like a regular practice with extended scrimmage time). Didn't sound like officials would be there (they had been the past two Saturdays).
Thought the Kevin Smith story might have brought out some TV reporters, but none showed. Guess it did die down fairly quickly.
Charlie Taaffe was in attendance.
Some recruits there as well. UCF CB signee Rashard Causey was there wearing a UCF hat and Marlins t-shirt. A huge group from the University School in Fort Lauderdale was in attendance. Some Georgia prospects from Sugar Hill (Ga.) Lanier were there, including 2016 QB Blake Roe. I see a profile, but no offers I don't think.
