Rushing advantage: yds/carry over twice Michigan's (6.0 vs. 2.9), much more than twice Michigan's total rushing (275 to 119) after 300+ yards by Michigan last week. had five runs longer than the longest run by any Michigan player (only 18 yds), and UCF had two long runs for TDs (35 and 87) while Michigan had 2 one-yard TDs. Wilson had 81 yds for a 4.8 ave on 17 carries. while Hamilton was 12 for only 39. The two QBs combined for 67 net yards despite 33 yds in losses. Killins had 87. Meanwhile, Michigan's top rushers had 38 and 36 net yards. Amazing!

Defense: UCF had 8 tackles for a loss (including 2 sacks), almost as good as yards and sacks by Michigan. Had 3 quarterback hurries and 3 pass breakups. Rucker led in solo tackles (7), Burkett in total tackles (9), Mutcherson TFL (3), Rucker in hurries (2), Mutcherson and Clarke with a sack each.

Strangest stat: Half their plays were pass attempts while over two-thirds of ours were runs.

I thought that Hamilton had to run the ball in the toughest situations, so he did fine.

Just checked out the running stats.
Wow!!!! 275 yards at 6.0 a clip and they were 2.9. That has to be something to build on. Total shocker. How the hell did we lose 51-14?

Just saw that Killins run was 87 yards
I thought it was 75. Dude ran away from 2 Michigan players with angles and couldn't stop after the endzone. Nice!

We are a running team. Killins had 87 of that 275 which skews the numbers. I wish that Holman didn't lose his balls.

Take away the two TD runs and we were a poor 2.6 yes per carry if I remember right. Need better consistent production unless we can get that long carry at least once every series which right now with the o-line play is not going to happen.

If you take away the TD runs we averaged 3.5 ypc. But why would you do that?

Never get that line of thinking

So outside of the home runs..:.;)

Last season the team probably didn't have 1 run over 40 yards the entire season

I mean isn't this Oregon spread offense going to be like that though? You have your big time runs, but are also bound to have quite a few losses/low gain runs. So yeah you could take out the big runs but why do that.

I used to think that way. YOU DO NOT REMOVE LONG RUNS that pad your average. They were not irrelevant runs and 2 went for TDs. All teams have long runs. I've seen teams run for 300 yards and their long run was under 30 with no TDs. How is that better?

We have more long runs in this game than ALL of last year vs #5 Michigan on the road. Hawaii was negative forever in their game.

If that's not a huge positive, then I don't know what is.

By the way, Holman IS faster this year and so it Patti. Both had some nice runs and knew WHEN to run mostly.
Some nice decisions throwing the ball away too. We didn't have one pick!

Hear that SB Nation!!!! No picks!

that's even the case with some Pro Style offenses, Dalvin Cook is considered one of the best RBs in the country and against that Ole Miss D he had a lot of low gain runs

why dont they try Killins at kickoff return. That guy is faster than Quincy McDuffie in his best days.
I checked the depth chart when it came out and I thought Killins was the other guy back on kickoffs. If so, all they'd have to do is switch positions with Payton.

If you take away the runs that gained no yards, our average would be incredible.

That's the point. Michigan had no big runs! That's where their huge average per carry can from against Hawaii. UCF had the five longest runs of the game. The three by the QBs and the two TD runs. Michigan's were 18 and 16. Harbaugh thought the passing game would open up the run, but it never did.

To establish that kind of rushing attack with NO threat in the passing game is certainly impressive. We have to be able to find better balance eventually. Getting a QB that can complete passes would be a great start.
