WTF was that?

An absolute turd in an otherwise flawless franchise

I just watched Episode 5, really liking it so far. I heard there was one really big dud of an episode though. I'm scared.

LOL, get ready. It's coming.

You can watch just to see how bad it is, or you could honestly just save time, skip to the last 5 minutes, and basically not miss anything.

Yep should have kept it at eight episodes like season one...unless they're planning to wrap it up in four seasons and add one each year so the last season will have eleven episodes :scream:

To me, it almost felt like Netflix was demanding that the Duffer Bros generate a future Spin Off show within this season, they didn't like the idea, so they gave Netflix what they wanted but did it in such a bafoonish, absurd way that it was almost poking them in the eye for making them do it.

At least I hope. Because if they genuinely thought this episode was a good addition to Season 2 then someone massively sucks at story boarding.

I didn’t hate it. “Jane” needed a little self-discovery. It could have been worse.

I agree, but there were 1,000 better ways to do it, within the existing plot and general flow of the show.

Instead we got 44 minutes of cartoonish gang characters doing stupid stuff.

yea it was absolute garbage. it couldve been done so much better, and honestly added almost nothing to this season at all. i see it more as a set up to next season more than anything else.

I think it was setting up her "sister" character for follow-on seasons, and there was the big revelation that Dada is likely not dead. Even though the Shadow Monster has been the biggest part of this season, there is still a larger narrative with Eleven's "father" and the people who helped them establish the lab in the beginning.

Episode 5 was the best, though.

...and why the hell did the "sister" live on the streets when she has her abilities. If I had one day with those abilities, I'd be filthy rich.

I thought the whole season was pretty badass personally. It was a bit random of an episode but it'll make sense in a year. Patience.

The season is badass so far, except for that episode. I've got the last 2 to go.

Honestly, I hope that episode doesn't make sense in a year. It would mean that her sister is being brought back for some larger, expanded role. Only problem with that is her sister's character was boring.

Maybe next year poor Will can avoid having something horrible happen to him.

hah that's just it -- They'll run out of steam with the current cast I think. There's only so many times they can fight the other side. Like for real.. come on Will.

My only real complaint with that episode wasn't how random it felt, but the direction it sets is very heroes / xmen-ish. Papa's going to end up being a misunderstood Professor X in charge of a band of youth misfits fighting monsters from another dimension.

And while that sounds awesome in a way, it kinda leaves the d&d thing behind a bit, which is what seemed so fresh about it. It's like every netflix series jumps the shark three or four seasons in.

Yep. Unfortunately, I think ST3 will be lackluster for that reason. They'll either stick with what's working and it'll become stale, or they'll veer off into this absurd XMen type show at which point I'll tune out.

There's already a show where a team fights different monsters every week- it's called Supernatural.

The one Netflix show that didn't jump the shark is Narcos. The last season was the 3rd and I thought it was awesome.

The episode sets up the final battle of season 2, and sets the storyline for the future. "Dada" is still out there and he still torments Eleven but now Eleven is much more powerful and knows how to control her power. It is a pretty simple concept if you're not a buffoon.
