**Assuming JRP is injured and cannot play**.

Why is the sentiment that we must save T. Castellanos' redshirt? Why wouldn't you evaluate every week regardless of the redshirt status and play accordingly?
While tailgating for the game this week, I kept running into people that mentioned his redshirt as a reason why he cannot see the field again this year. Why not??

Ask Gus. Its what he wants.

What is the point of saving Keene's red shirt? I think if he is given the option, I think he will play in the Cotton Bowl too. I think both of these QBs are amazing - JRP has the speed, MK has the arm. Is MK planning to leave? DG could throw dimes but never won the big games (we see that continue at OK). MK beat UF and kind of looked like a cross between Bortles and KZ. I guess its just because he doesn't fit Gus but the guy has "it". He just wins games.

Yes Mikey is leaving. He wants to start. Not be behind a transfer and play when that guy gets hurt.

This one is easy, I’m sure the original deal was Keene wanted 3 years at his next stop and offered to stay instead of hopping in the portal right away. Now? The deal may be off.

And anyone that understands the College game also wants to preserve the redshirt for the toughest position in sport. The only way he should play is if both other QBs cannot play.
Start naming QBs that have stayed at UCF for 5 years.

Why would you roll out a freshman at the cotton bowl? Makes zero sense

I agree, Castellanos' red shirt should not stop him from coming in the game if we need him in the Championship game or potential Cotton Bowl.

That being said, if JRP is out Mikey has to (and will) get the nod. Castellanos could be amazing, but fact of the matter is he hasn't seen the field in meaningful play, so to all of a sudden pivot to him in the championship game with a healthy Keene, does not make sense.

None of the players or Gus have ever stated redshirt considerations for determining which QB is available. That’s something fans and media made up. If JRP doesn’t play, Keene will play his 5th game.

You think Redshirting is a must. It only matters if guys stay 5 years. They rarely do. Just play whoever is best or if needed. Redshirts don’t matter.
I believe the vast majority of QBs need a redshirt year to develop properly and avoid bad habits….nothing to do with being around 5 years, but most QBs benefit from playing the college game for 5 years.

As pointed out redshirt is useless these days from a program standpoint, no one is waiting in line anymore. If you aren't starting you are jumping to the next program.

If Castallanos doesn't win the job next year he is gone. Dumb to sit on the bench for two years while the staff is actively recruiting for someone particularly an experienced transfer that will get promises that Castallanos didn't get. Nevermind if coaching staff changes and everything is thrown out the window.

No one would EVER sign a QB that decided not to play when asked for their former team.
LOL……Mr Socko sure looked ready to go late in the season.

And if there was an agreement with Gus, no one would question it.

No QB is going to publicly say it. Regardless, CJ Stroud could say he's done playing for Day and wants to play for another program, and every coach including Malzahn would be in line. Plenty of players with massive character flaws get multiple chances if they have talent.

When QBs leave after fall camp because they did not win the position, its not much different.

Lol. Someone asked Keene that dumb question actually and his response was he would definitely play if JRP couldn’t go.
Agreed, it's a stupid question. Does anyone think Keene would give an answer of "No, I am done with UCF."

Just like you don't tell your company you are actively job hunting if you haven't secured anything.

Staff already dealt with this last year, and they didn't unveil anything until it happened. The only thing leaked outside of the program was rumors. Gabriel was in much better position to land somewhere good than Keene is.

Different being Gabriel checked out in game 3 and Keene has been locked in and played in 4 of the last 5 games.

As I said, Gabriel already established himself. Keene hasn't. Gabriel was a national name, whether UCF fans think he was bad or not. Keene is not on anyone's radar, if he wins a conference championship or plays well in Cotton Bowl that changes.

From an outsider point of view on the national scale, he beat Cincinnati throwing for 0 touchdowns and beat UF throwing for 1 TD, averaging 150 yards passing. Now if a team is in the transfer portal looking for a QB that can hand off the ball 50 times and win, he's a good look at. However, most teams are looking for big numbers from the QB and don't have a rushing game that can support a game management QB.

There will be no shortage of transfer QBs available, and last year had so many top tier guys that were considered Heisman contenders before they went to the portal.

MK will play in the championship if called on. What are the odds of him reaching another? He certainly will play in the Cotton Bowl if called on. I mean, it’s the damn cotton bowl. No way you turn that down.

If he wants to transfer, he has to do it after CCG. If he waits until January, he may not get a good landing spot.

Yep, the guys on 365 were discussing this yesterday, saying the weekend of December 9-11 will have hundreds of visits with all the smoke cleared the next week. Mikey would be best served getting in that group.

He can still play if in the portal
Ok. But the school that says they may have a spot could change mind if you don’t sign paperwork and immediately transfer. Its best to not wait. If he gets injured in game no one will hold that scholarship.

The thing is, Keene has not showed enough to get a transfer to a p5 school to compete for a starting job. I think the best he gets is an FAU type. Heck, remember Mack who had an amazing CCG performance and led his team to within 3 points of LSU? The best he could get was Old Dominion, and even he lost his starting job.
