So I was out and about running errands today and saw your usual UF and FSU t-shirt fans around. I have nothing against the people who legitimately went and attended those schools, but the band-wagoners drive me insane.

So here's my question, do you like that UCF doesn't have a large "t-shirt" fan base? I have some mixed feelings on the subject, but a part of me takes pride in that most UCF fans attended the school, helped build the program, and TRULY know its history.

I have one friend that poked fun of me being a fan of my UCF alma mater. He is the typical Florida redneck type, graduate high school and never went to college. You know, the type that always roots for UF.

I replied to his comment by asking him what his major was. He and his dumb wife don't talk to me anymore. No skin off my back

He has a ton of UF t-shirts.

I like rooting for the underdog and always have. Being a bandwagoneer is easy

There is not a single institution in college athletics with a larger non-affiliated fanbase than UF. 99% of their fans, many of whom are the epitome of your stereotypical redneck, have never enrolled in a single credit hour at the University of Florida! And that's coming from someone who earned a post-doc degree from UF!

You've obviously never been to Penn State.

if they spend money attending UCF games, I don't care if they are a t-shirt fan. UCF needs t-shirt fans to help sell out the stadium consistently when we turn it around, especially for the weeknight games

I wish we had t-shirt fans. It means we're worth rooting for. Most SEC fans are t-shirt fans. It makes a lot of money for the conference and allows them to better exploit their unpaid labor.

Do we really? When we are graduating 10,000 students a semester, all I really think we need is time. We are JUST starting to get legacy students.

People rooting for a University they have no actual connection to are the worst. That said, I think it would be great if UCF were attracting more of them. That's a sign that you've made it.

Pretty much all of Ohio roots for OSU whether you went there, another school, or none at all.

Coming on the heels of an 0-12 season with arguably the worst team in the history of college football, this thread is delusional on an order of cosmic magnitude. You people want to pick and choose who is worthy enough to meet your lofty standards of fandom? Please tell me you are trolling. I'd rather think that than believe you mean it and are out there reproducing.

Now that's a great story!

Bingo. This fanbase is something else. So jealous of Florida! But wait doesn't UCF have a better program than UF? That's what I read last year? Ha

new AD needs to get working on an agreement to get a spanish language radio broadcast for UCF games like the Magic

Am I the only one who doesn't want bandwagon Tshirt fans so that way you know everyone in a hat or shirt has a connection to the school? Plus without those bandwagon people season tickets will continue to stay cheap and affordable.

Just stop it. Now you want to fan discriminate.

Please tell me exactly how a tshirt bandwagoner getting in my way at practices, taking up my space in the stadium and driving up prices enhances my experience?

I hate tshirt bandwagoners. I'm so proud that UCF does not have them. They are a plague in college athletics. They are the reason why there's an "eye" test and polls and the selling out of the postseason. College athletics would be much better, fairer and enjoyable without T-shirt bandwagoners.

You are 100% correct. Tshirt bandwagoners are bad for universities and for college sports.

Real fans don't tea bag passed out opposing fans. Real fans don't destroy the property of rival schools. Real college fans don't get in fights - leave that for professional sports. Real fans don't disgrace universities by being obnoxious at bars when they know nothing about the school they are wearing. Tshirt bandwagoners are the devil.

Being mad at this stuff is so small time. There's no difference between rooting for UF and rooting for say...a pro football team. It's the same emotional connection or just attaching to a sports team. Whether or not you went there is irrelevant considering how big CFB is today. It's basically pro sports.

If you're mad at t shirt fans get over it.

Having an "emotional connection" to a school that you never went to is like being in love with a chick you've never met. That's what I call a pathetic loser in my book. Pathetic loser tshirt bandwagoners will never get a pass or a man card from me.

Is it the same as someone being a fan of a pro team whose city they have never lived in?

bothers me also, no affiliation with the school what so ever. Just rednecks or transplants that either never went to college or fans that think the gayters represent florida.

Pro teams are different IMHO but yeah. Tshirt bandwagoners are like the guy from Miami who likes the Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys, Sounders and Red Wings but way way worse.

It's not fan discrimination. It's respecting real fans and trying to stomp out pathetic losers who try to act like a fan when they never did the things necessary to become a fan.
They aren't real fans but they did buy the t-shirt. I welcome them in the upper deck and far parking spaces.

While I agree that diehard fans of programs of institutions they have absolutely no affiliation with whatsoever are pathetic, I'd gladly take tens of thousands of them for UCF right now.

What about someone from Miami liking the magic gators or jags?

Not even close.

Notre Dame, Bama, Michigan all have a far greater percentage of sidewalk fans.

Another thing about those programs is that they are hugely successful.

Saying that you only want people who are affiliated with the school to support the football team is like being in a band and saying that you only want band members, or their relatives, to go to their concerts.

You need to stick your head outside of Florida. UGA, Bama, and even Auburn would surpass UF in this metric.... and that's just the SEC. Ohio State, Penn State, ND, and Texas just off the top of my head have enormous t-shirt fan/alumni ratios too likely surpassing UF.
