Just go to the NBA draft from 6 years ago. You’ll see that even first round picks aren’t all stars or even good. 2nd round is worse. A lot of those guys don’t play at all.The Magic recently extended the contracts of the team President and GM. Good job. About as good a decision as USF extending Scott (that's sarcasm). The Magic run a horrible organization. I can't believe they get paid the money they do to fail.
So far they have had 67 picks as a franchise:
1) The only things they haven't screwed up over the years is picking players in slots 1-5 in the first round of the draft (Dennis Scott, Shaq, Penny, Mike Miller, Dwight Howard, Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon). Hezonja was a bust. Suggs is too new to assess (should be a solid, long term NBA player, though). I'm pretty certain most fans who love the NBA and college basketball in general could have made those picks, though.
Outside of that their ability find players in the draft has been pretty abysmal. In my opinion, these are the only other draft picks that turned out to be high-end, long term players in the NBA (not necessarily just for the Magic)
2) 1989 - Nick Anderson
3) 2006 - JJ Reddick
That's it. So 2 out of 58 other draft picks. It would be interesting to see how these numbers work out against every other team, though, since this is a sample size of 1.
In Boston and Cleveland people were going just to see him. Same with Erie and Maine. If Orlando wouldn’t, it’s time to move the franchise. When I was at UCF getting tickets to Magic games was hard.Would he really sell tickets, though? Not like people were flocking to UCF basketball games when he was here.
I find this very hard to believe. "I don't care about anything else, but I'll go to the game on the off-chance Tacko might get in the game the last 5 minutes of a blowout."In Boston and Cleveland people were going just to see him. You watch NBA?I find this very hard to believe. "I don't care about anything else, but I'll go to the game on the off-chance Tacko might get in the game the last 5 minutes of a blowout."
People cheering for him to come into the game is not the same thing as buying tickets specifically because you want to see him play. You watch NBA?
Adding Tacko is a no brainer for the Magic....unfortunately, we're discussing the Magic here so who knows? On the court, the Magic and brains are not exactly synonymous. However, when you buy a franchise for 85M that is now worth 1.43B per Forbes (that's right B), it really doesn't matter what you and I think does it?I find this very hard to believe. "I don't care about anything else, but I'll go to the game on the off-chance Tacko might get in the game the last 5 minutes of a blowout."
Kids bug their parents to bring them to game just to see Tacko. Even if he may not play the parents will she’ll out a few hundred if they have the money to spend. The whole time the kids are asking if Tacko is going in soon. My team is the Cavs. I’ve watched most games this year. Even on Twitter I see fans of teams saying they want Tacko. He’s been a fan favorite everywhere he’s gone and people do pay just to see him. Even if it’s only a couple thousand per game, that’s a couple thousand of seats filled, parking and concessions. Possibly even jerseys.People cheering for him to come into the game is not the same thing as buying tickets specifically because you want to see him play.
This is an absurd statement. Let me know when the Cavs attendance decreases by a couple thousand per game for the rest of the season because they released him. It won't happen.Kids bug their parents to bring them to game just to see Tacko. Even if he may not play the parents will she’ll out a few hundred if they have the money to spend. You have kids? You know anyone going to Hula Bowl to see KZ? He isn’t going to the play most of the game yet people are going to see him. Funny how that works. This is an absurd statement. Let me know when the Cavs attendance decreases by a couple thousand per game for the rest of the season because they released him. It won't happen.
What does that have to do with anything we're talking about? You made a statement, just a couple posts up saying Tacko sells a couple thousand tickets per game, do you believe that? Do you believe the Cavaliers attendance is going to drop by a couple thousand per game because they released him? This is something that can actually be tracked and proven, remember. You have kids? Unless they ask walk ups or 3rd party ticket sales why they are buying tickets you can’t say why people are going. Just like you can’t prove how many people are going to Hula just to see KZ. I know he has an effect on who goes but you can’t prove it. Cavs have been selling out. No one is asking why people are buying tickets. Everyone’s reasons are different. If you don’t want to believe people are buying tickets to watch the tallest NBA player, you don’t have to.What does that have to do with anything we're talking about? Of course you can prove it. If the attendance is the same whether he’s on the team or released, that literally proves he had no effect on attendance.Unless they ask walk ups or 3rd party ticket sales why they are buying tickets you can’t say why people are going. They are the 10 seed right now and last game was at capacity. Magic have 7 wins and last game was 5,000 below capacity. If you were a GM or owner wouldn’t you at least give him a 10 day contract to see if you can reduce the empty seats? So essentially he is to be peddled as a side show? Might as well get him on some reality tv. Boston fans can care less if they have 10 completely unlikable players, they rather win, and that's what would sell tickets there.
No. You don’t think thousands of people bought Gator tickets to see Tebow? After he left they still sold tickets. How can you prove why people buy tickets?Of course you can prove it. If the attendance is the same whether he’s on the team or released, that literally proves he had no effect on attendance.
1. Are you seriously comparing Tacko's impact on the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, to KZ's impact at UCF and Tebow's impact at Florida? No. You don’t think thousands of people bought Gator tickets to see Tebow? After he left they still sold tickets. How can you prove why people buy tickets?
Only way to truly prove it would be signing him to a team that’s not selling out. So Magic. A team that’s been selling out all year you can’t prove who bought tickets to watch Tacko and who bought to watch Garland. There are Tacko fans. I really don’t need to prove it. You can just go to Twitter and search to see all the Tweets from around the World about him.1. Are you seriously comparing Tacko's impact on the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, to KZ's impact at UCF and Tebow's impact at Florida?
2. Are you currently arguing that Tacko will continue to sell tickets for the Cavs despite the fact that he's gone?
3. If you can't prove the impact a player has on attendance (you can) why are you so adamant that Tacko helps in that regard?
definitely!Pistons just signed Bol Bol and aren’t very tall beyond him. I know some Magic fans want him. He’d sell tickets for a bad team.
