Tailgating Question

Question for Knights fans.

I'm coming with family for the Oct 10 UCF/UConn game and was interested in advice on the where and when to tailgate.

I live in Pensacola and will be with my family and my sister's family. We're not looking for the most raucous or crazy crowd. While I'll gravitate to keg stands and drinking games I've been told it sets a poor example for my kids and my niece and nephew.

So, for an out of towner who doesn't have access to prioritized parking, what are the options?

I've looked online and other locations for parking areas and rules, but I'd like to hear from the source.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome! It depends on if you want to pay for parking or not.

I used to park for free in one of the free
lots (A or B I think) and we just set up our stuff and had a relaxing and great time. You can pretty much set up anywhere except inside a parking garage. You'll just have to walk a bit to the stadium. However, it's a scenic and very interesting walk to say the least.

Alternatively, you can buy a parking pass in a lot like C1 or E5 and be a little closer. I'm not sure about D lot as I never used it. It was popular.

C1 surface lot has a lot of grassy areas (some with shade) and is relaxing, but fun as well.

If you want to avoid craziness, then Memory Mall isn't for you. However, it's nice to walk through it and follow the sidewalk past the Basketball Arena and Barnes and Noble, etc. on the way to the Stadium.

Avoid parking in a garage. It's too much to carry your things and you tend to get stuck in long lines out after a game.

You can pretty much set up a grill anywhere.

Maybe best game day parking/tailgating for families for just one game could be the University Carillon Methodist Church, just north of the Stadium on McCulloch...as the Church doesn't do "rowdy" and is a great place for families.

They open 4 hours before kickoff.

Individual game day grass parking first come, first serve (unreserved, asphalt overflow parking after that)- $20 per game (its considered a tax deductible donation)

  • Enjoy a visiting team and family friendly parking venue
  • Free hot dogs, chips and drinks
  • Lighted & Sheriff patrolled
  • Much closer than general public parking on campus (Find us at “1-I” on the UCF campus map)
  • http://cdn.ucf.edu/map/printable/Illustrated Campus Map.pdf
  • Open 4 hours before game time
  • Easy to exit following the game
  • Support the Community Ministries of the Church

Thank you for both the responses. Hearing it from local fans helps give context to the written rules and maps from the UCF website.

Looking forward to a great weekend.

Thanks again for the recommendations. Heading down this evening.

One final question regarding the UMC parking lot. Is it alcohol-free? We'd like to crack open a few beers and am well beyond the age of trying to sneak them in.

We're just looking to be good guests and follow the policies.

Thanks again.

Church prefers if you drink out of cans vs bottles (don't won't broken glass on their property) and/or use solo cups. Bring your own garbage bag in case you are not near one of their trash cans.

As long as you don't go "crazy" around this family environment, you will be fine enjoying some cold ones with others.

Remember, all in your party will receive a free hot dog, bag of chips and bottle of water from their grill area.

Believe their lot will open at 11 am.

The UMC is new so I've never done it. As Mike said the Burnett Honors College area by A & B garage is a great area to tailgate with families. It has a more low key chill vibe but is still very fun area. Free parking is great but it's probably the longest walk to the stadium. For me the walking distance from the Honor College (20mins or so) to stadium vs UMC's would be the deciding factor.
