Tatum Bethune Enters Transfer Portal

Nooooo. Just go pro. What else does he have to prove?
Now it really sucks losing Gilyard too

I could understand most of our transfers including DG. This one just doesn’t make sense. He’s our star LB in a system that seems to suit him and with no one really pushing him for playing time. Why change now and risk not starting or fitting the system elsewhere. Maybe he got an offer to sell more socks at FSU?

Well, I guess we know where he is going. Sometimes it's more about relationship with your past DC. I wish him the best.

Not only was it a lock, his play was exceptional. Now he gets one year to go somewhere else where he may or may not light it up. Oh well, this is going to be the norm from now on.....everywhere.
I think in a few years the transfer portal won't be so busy. Why? Kids like Tatum may go somewhere else and discover all that glitters is not gold. You could see a lot kids with no home at all left out in the cold. That's the reality of it and these young men will start to weigh those things. Do I transfer or do I stay where I got a sure thing? I am also hoping the Big XII status adds some more stability for us as well.

Wasn't the thought Gilyard left because Bethune took his playing time.

Man the portal continues to taketh, hope it starts to giveth soon.
Especially in the OL and LB positions.
Yep...it's become desperate now at LB. Can't afford to lose your top tackler and overall defensive MVP like this. Two key LB's, who should have been here next year, won't be. It's time for our DC to step it up, find some replacements and keep them engaged with our program.

Randy Shannon snaking us or some nil shenanigans going on …this sucks and moving to FSU of all places
NIL, just seems like a scapegoat. Right now I bet there is a lot of programs that can offer way more than FSU who lost a recruit to an FCS team. His relationship with Shannon is the x factor if he goes to FSU. It was mentioned by someone on the board he was being targeted by several programs.

I talked to my co-worker again who was the one who told me he was transferring a couple weeks ago. She was with his family after the Gasparilla bowl and she states that FSU seems to be the team.

and T Will was a better D Coordinator and is probably our most likable/relatable assistant . Shannon is over the hill

The over the hill guy is who he had a relationship since high school and someone he probably relates to as a person who grew up in Miami and played linebacker.

Did Tatum Bethune do any type of NIL marketing at UCF?

Huge bummer but won't criticize him too much after knowing this must have been his plan for a while (let's say since the Randy Shannon announcement) and still chose to shut up and play the big bowl game for us and then announce his transfer. That is very respectable in this day and age. Plus if he is indeed going back to Randy Shannon, you can't fault him (that bad) for going to the guy who recruited him.

it isn’t just bitter ucf fans saying this about Shannon . Gator fans said it too , he clearly isn’t a great coordinator. Why not play one more year at UCF and just go Pro? This transfer makes zero sense

But fans are fans. You actually have to talk to the player(s). If he looked up to Shannon as a mentor and someone he talks to regularly, what does it matter if a million people say Shannon sucks.

I thought he was always really tight with Baptiste from when they were recruited together, seemed like anyways. What a blow, dang.

It's going to be interesting to see where the transfer portal is going. Could this end up being bad for G5 schools as P5 schools go after impact players without them announcing any intention to transfer. I believe the intention for the portal was to give players lost in the depth charts a chance to play somewhere else. I QUESTION THAT NOW. ( this comment is in general and not necessarily pertinent to Tantum's transfer)

I know your bit lately is to argue for players leaving UCF but this move is extremely rare considering his role and production in the system. It is not like he didn’t fit which can be argued for DG some despite how horribly he handled it

It is unusal, but did Big Kat have no chance to play for Auburn this year?

FSU is a more renowned program. If he starts at FSU, he thinks he will look better to NFL scouts because 1) He beat out *better* players for the spot and 2) FSU plays a more renowned schedule. That's all this is about.

NFL scouts find players wherever they are. Don’t have to play for FSU to get drafted

Then he should probably watch an NFL game, as they name UCF players, FAU players and believe it or not they even mention guys who decided to not go to an university (usf), not to mention universities you've never heard of (Div II etc.).

It’s done at every level. Even high school kids go to schools like IMG or Montverde when they’ve already had eyes on them. Clout Chasing is a thing.

For me I think it is best for UCF that everyone transfers like this craters. Like Scott Frost. Make it a bad decision to go elsewhere.
