wow. Our bowl tie-ins are abysmal. They deserve better than that. Well, at least they'll be familiar with where the game is played.

USF gets 6-6 South Carolina.....yuck. We better show up as a conference and lay best-downs on these teams (referring to our upper echelon teams)

Did you mean "beat-downs"?

So crappy. Does American #1 always go there or just because temple is close? Doubt many Ucf fans would travel to Maryland if we swapped places. Such disrespect

The AAC gets one more reality check about how they do not matter at all. Temple and USF wasted their time this year excelling. In the old days, schools would routinely turn down such invites, especially Temple which has already played 13 games and won the big prize, the conference championship. A trip to a bowl would cost their low-revenue athletic program $3 mill they do not have! Petty cash bowl money, travel, lodging, and low attendance.

Teams like us and Temple don't turn down Bowl invites. That's for teams who usually are in hunt for real bowls.

Very very sad. USF and Temple better win handily. Those teams are terrible

Such disrespect is right!

So who will be sponsoring the Birmingham Bowl battle between UWCF and USC (East Coast)? Old Mc Donald?

With a cluck-cluck here and a moo-moo there....
Here a chicken, there a cow....
E-I-E-I-O!

Looking into future years they need to negotiate a better bowl game for the American Champions.:sunglasses:

Oh, I got it!

It could be called the Farmers Insurance Barnyard Battle in Birmingham!

Temple didn't do themsevles any favors by losing to Army early. I dont care if they lost one player.
Penn State on the other hand is going to the Rose Bowl and was one of the first on the outside looking in the playoff.

I don't think winning that would have mattered. Temple would have still ended up in the same bowl. I actually think Houston has the most intriguing matchup, against San Diego State.

A Thursday at 2 PM in Alabama? They won't even travel 15 minutes from campus to Ray Jay. No one from USF making that trip.
It's also the cultural barrier. Tampa Bay area is filled with Midwest transfers which clashes with the deep South (except for Huntsville, Ala).

It is all about the $$ guys. Since bowl games have been rendered meaningless by the BCS and Playoffs the only think that matters is how much revenue the teams can bring to the game. Currently nobody in the AAC brings much. Wake Forrest will probably travel better than USF. Just a fact. Until that changes get used to relatively obscure bowl games located in FL.

Every year at this time is the same thing...

Some dopes whining and complaining that schools aren't turning down bowl invites, and thus, extra practice time and money. All in the name of....well, what exactly?

That's all that matters in general: how large, wealthy, and loyal is the fan base! Sports is pure ENTERTAINMENT that affects nothing in the real world. Music groups depend on fans, not the quality of their music. As UCF's huge but youngish alumni base moves up their career ladders to higher incomes and more choice over taking days off, our fans will travel better. Time is on our side!

Bahamas could be a fun trip to do one year even if the opponent isn't exciting. But yeah, we're likely looking at a "meh" game every year unless we have an undefeated or 1 loss season. It is what it is. At least we are talking about bowling again!

I know it's a dead horse, but I hope those complaining on here about our bowls aren't the same who wanted to refuse a P5 invitation.

On the other side, yes crappy bowls go along with a crappy conference. Once we're seen as better, things may improve. Was it last year, or every year, that the AAC wins only 1 or 2 bowl games a year? Why have the AAC when they don't win?

We should just go independent and host our own bowl. Get a tie in with the B10, SEC or Pac 12.

If it were about generating revenue, we'd agree to take $1.5 million to be sacrificial lambs in September playing at a Michigan or Alabama. That's how the MAC conference survives; every school plays at a Big 10 powerhouse. Guaranteed paydays. Of the 38 non-playoff bowls this year, only 4 or 5 pay more that those September OOC games, and the bowls come with ticket sale stipulations that drain ensure big losses. Most schools literally cannot afford to have a winning season!

Some of you really have warped perceptions. The P5 purposely set up this new system to minimize the number of bowl games they have to play against "lowly" G5 teams. When we were in CUSA, CUSA teams usually only got one shot at a BCS team each bowl season...the Liberty Bowl. Now, in the AAC, our conference usually plays two P5 teams per bowl season and the number could go as high as four or even five P5 opponents in a bowl season if everything falls into place exactly right.

The Liberty bowl we went to a few times as conference champs looks pretty good now. :sunglasses:
yeah losing that Liberty Bowl tie in to the Big12 sucks. That Bowl has an old South Traditional feel to it and it's a fairly cheap place to visit for a few days

It feels like the Power 5 is slowly trying to screw G5 schools as much as possible till some just give up

Half of this is old school thought and half of this is head scratching material. ***

pretty much Houston didn't even win their division but they are still the most talked about Team/Program in the AAC bc they beat the Big12 Champ and one of the best teams this season in the ACC
It also goes to show how no one researches our league either. Why Houston drops out of the Top 25 for losing to a team with a solid winning record in our conference is beyond me. If this was a P5 it wouldnt happen.

I'm still waiting for that day our fanbase can fill up Franklin Field in Philadelphia for a Temple home game just like Notre Dame and Penn State can do.

Of course. But the exact opposite has been happening: a mass entry of schools to FBS. When UCF went to Div. I-A, there were only 96 schools there. Now there's almost 130!

That still helps the P-5 by making the G-5 appear third rate, filled by former FCS schools (or in the case of USF, non-football schools). Now that the P-5 has stopped conference raiding of one another (primarily by ACC making it financially infeasible to leave), they are exploring de facto separation from the NCAA's authority --
  • impose maximums on playing G-5 like they do with FCS schools
  • make it impossible for a non-P5 school to qualify for the national championship playoffs (almost there already)
  • compensate players $5000/yr: perhaps by reducing scholarships (add a 2nd class of tuition-only players?): this might be a way to force out the Miss St., Vandy, Wash St. low revenue schools, too, and replace them with a BYU; could also provide the rationale to reduce the huge drain from meeting Title IX and minor male sports.
  • convert all conference to truly national, coast-to-coast by expansions to 16 as the Big 12 implodes.

Why can't the AAC, CUSA, Sun Belt and MAC lock down and create bowls in FL & TX? Even if they are at UCF, USF, FIU, FAU this gives our schools the ability to select the match ups and for the fans to know where their school is going.

We tried to create a bowl and FAU did. Boca Bowl. Plus Raymond James hosts bowls already too. We already play those conferences in bowls. Why do we need to lock them down?

Liberty Bowls were a ton of fun (minus MSU's obnoxious cowbells!). But I remember the hotels were a little steep in price. Still a very fun trip and GREAT win against UGA. I may have cried a little...lol

We were actually kind of hoping for this bowl. It would've been a ton of fun. And JetBlue flies to the Bahamas offering fares that are relatively inexpensive. But alas, we're in the Cure. GO KNIGHTS! BEAT THE RED WOLVES!!!
