I don't know anything about Tesla so I don't know if there's tons of trim packages and what a base model gets you, but they're promising to sell the Model 3 base model at $35,000 which is pretty competitive.

I'll be curious to know if these tax incentives apply to a $35K car or not.

Order yours now and hopefully you'll get yours by 2023!

I was playing with the idea of getting one as a local daily type car. I love the look of the model S but the 3 is kind of plain looking to me.

For $35k it’s gotta look sort of vanilla. I’m still not sure what the plan for Tesla is since they aren’t profitable and producing a cheaper car can’t help that.

Musk may need to fabricate some privatization rumors again soon

there is one in my neighborhood. looks awesome and cant really hear it coming, which is kind of creepy since i have kids running around.

I just read that Tesla is closing down every current store and laying off tons of people to get costs in line to offer this at $35K.

So no test drives possible, you order online, and you have a week to return it if you don't like how it drives. And from what I've read so far, returning a car to Tesla is a giant pain in the ass.

Dumb move on their part.

Impressive how well Chevrolet does with the Volt and Bolt with very little publicity.
Heck, you could say that about most of the vehicles in that graphic. The only two that I remember seeing extended paid advertising for are the Leaf and Prius.

It's because they're run by CEOs who don't crave the spotlight and schedule rock star events to announce their new products like Musk does. The big OEMs are doing a far better job at getting affordable EV to the market and in time they will crush Tesla. If they haven't already.

People on 3-4 year wait lists with Tesla will in time realize that they can cancel their order and go down to any one of 4 local dealerships and find really good EVs for much less, and drive it off the lot same day.

I don't know about you but a Tesla Model S and 3 are a lot sexier of a car and a volt, bolt, leaf, or any of the other true electric cars. Unless I was a huge tree hugger, there is no way that my money for an EV would go anywhere else other than Tesla until the major automakers put out a car that has decent styling.

Exactly. If you think people are buying Tesla's only because they are EVs you are a moron. Tesla's have so many awesome innovative features like sentry mode autopilot and tons of others. Plus they're the only EV with a supercharger Network around the country. It's not even in the same ballpark as a leaf.

The mass consumer market doesn’t give a shit. They want EV at a price they can afford and not wait years for.

Plus the large Us OEMs will eventually make the sexier cars once they have the technology down.

Tesla is a loser long term

That’s pretty much me. I’d love a Tesla but can’t afford to drop 75k or whatever they go for. Also not a fan of buying a car that I can’t test drive and have to wait years to get.

Test drive one if you can. The G force that this car generates is amazing. Acceleration is unmatched.

Kia and Hyundai just added their EV Compact Crossovers to the market. Kia's is starting at $38K, though. Dumb move. One of these guys needs to get one under $30K to make a dent in the market.

Yup. I’ll be in the market for a new car in the next 2-3 years. If there’s a legit EV option for 30 or under I will seriously consider it (I drive about 35 miles each way for work). If not I’ll look at something like a civic that can get 40+ Mpg

Interesting comment by the GM CEO...

What I want to know is, what kind of mining changes are going to be necessary to produce the volume of rare earth minerals necessary for the motors?
Will they ever be able to properly recycle those motors and the batteries?
