There has been a lot of hand-wringing by the Pro-Choice movement on the interwebs regarding the Texas Anti-Abortion Law that the SCOTUS upheld. Personally, I thought the exact opposite -- it is SO asinine that it will: a) energize and mobilize the Pro-Choice people and b) cause many Anti-Abortion advocates to have second-thoughts given the particulars of this bill. Why? 1. Zero exceptions for rape or incest. 2. It incentives private citizens to sue people they believe have been involved in an abortion for a cash award. WTF?

Does our 'small government' gang really believe these draconian measures are a good idea? Can you all imagine what we'd hear from our Usual Suspects is we mirrored this wide-open, 'private bounty hunter' provision with...Hate Speech? Illegal Gun Sales? Even....gasp!...Mask Wearing in mask mandated areas?

It's easy to understand why good people can be on either side of this issue. But throughout my lifetime, it seems to me that social conservatives have always had a way of shooting themselves in the foot on the subject. Be it their over-the-top rhetoric or their wacko actions (i.e. murdering abortion doctors in the name of "pro-life").

This Texas Law strikes me as just the latest example. I wouldn't be surprised if this law does more harm than good to the Anti-Abortion movement in the long run.

That's all fine and well, but this law will save lives. Even if it's just one life, it's worth it. Worst case scenario is that we go back to the status quo.

Is there a pregnancy registry? How will it be confirmed that someone had an abortion?

Yeah, thank god the state who doesnt care about covid, gun violence, and have horribly regulated power system that resulted in death, are concerned about life.

I read yesterday that Fox had barely covered this story. You would think they would be screaming from the rooftops with this, so interesting they havent (or at least hadnt, maybe they have today).

You and I both know that if this was a law 'those libs' enacted regarding another hot-button issue that posters here would be literally screaming to high heavens about how evil and draconian the government had become and how we've lost our freedom.

It's yet another example of Conservatives lamenting Big Bad Government --- unless, of course, it's doing THEIR DIRTY WORK.

Ah. The predictable non-sequitor appears.

I am interested to see how this plays out. You know there are going to be loads of lawsuits brought against people who have never had anything to do with an abortion in their life.

Nothing to do with pro-life. It's anti-abortion. Don't conflate the 2.

Well yeah, I think that is obvious to most anyone paying attention that the term "pro life" isnt an accurate description of most of these people. Pro birth perhaps, but certainly not pro life.

As long as they get vaccinated and wear cloth mask to prevent Wuhan, I don't care what else they do or don't do. It is their body their choice.

Absolutely wild that s rapist can rape a woman, then report her for having an abortion to claim $10K.

The Texas Taliban is here.

Medically safe abortions decline. Meanwhile, swift kicks to the gut increase tenfold.

We consider all those young, tribal male neanderthals living in Afghanistan to explain the country's horrid treatment of their women.

But you'd think old Texas politicians would know better.

why do yall always have to concoct the most tragic scenarios to make your point? they almost always involve some weird sexual perversion too

this really flies in the face of your "thats just a really small percentage" argument about vaccines.

I wonder how they are going to prove:
1. Somebody was pregnant
2. If they can prove 1, that the same person got an abortion (and not a miscarriage)

Morgan & Morgan is probably opening a few more offices in TX for this (both sides). Can you go after somebody that falsely accused you?

Pregnancy registry. You can report fatties. If fat enough the state will require submittal to a pregnancy test. 1k reward for any fatty who turns out pregnant. 1k fine for any fatty who fails to register on the fatty potentially preggo list. If preggo and you don’t deliver a registered newborn, proof of valid miscarriage will be required. Verified and notarized by at least 2 witnesses.

With today's GQP I honestly can't tell what's satire and what's today's breaking news.

I'm half expecting the Texas Taliban to announce a partnership with the actual Taliban. They both are religious extremists, hate science, and are antivax.

Yeah, the bad guys are bad---as long as you don't look at them too closely. :)

It's the exact same formula: separate people into "us vs them" using our innate evolved tribalism, then controlling using a higher power. Idiots gobble it up because it gives them a sense of purpose and explains their suffering.

^^^^ totally self-unaware

Funny how our board's mask and vaccine "freedom fighters" aren't touching the 'open bounty hunter' provision of this Texas bill with a ten-foot pole.

Weird, huh?. You'd think incentivizing private citizens to 'rat out' women who get abortions for a 10K reward would be right up their freedom-loving alley.

And who gives a damn about pregnancies 'supposedly' the result of rape or incest. That kind of crap NEVER happens. It's all make-believe, right guys?*

^^^^^celebrates the killing of babies.

We can have a whole bunch of anti-vax, pro-horse paste bullsh!t threads lamenting the ‘loss of freedom’ in this country — but a law incentivizing a private citizen hit squad to identify potential abortion ‘evil-doers’ brings out the crickets. But I suppose this pales in comparison to the heavy-handed crap this nation pulls on non-maskers, right guys? :)

When Satan is your last great hope, it may be time to step back and reconsider your position.

I started this thread on Friday and have yet to read a single post defending the 'open bounty hunter' provision of this Texas bill. You'd think our board's group of freedom fighters would be all over such an egregious infringement of a person's civil rights.

Apparently, it doesn't rise to the level of a school mask mandate.

You think other people's civil rights end when it affects your personal comfort.

What more needs to be said about why nobody takes you seriously?

When does life end? What defines it?

Pretty sure nobody on the left will dare answer those questions so this will be radio silence.
