The Biggest

Heup did great his first 2 seasons with seasoned veterans that came from championship teams but we did regress as a team every year, and his recruiting and player development on offense was suspect. Randy did get and develop a lot of good defensive guys. Who did Heup specifically develop on offense from 2018-2020? Dillon, O’Keefe, Matt Lee and Pauole. Any others? He whiffed a lot on OL. That’s about it on offense. Admittedly, it’s hard to recall who were in-transfers and the info is hard to find on the internet so I might not be recalling a player or two. Jaylon Robinson was one, and he was great until he got injured. It just didn’t seem like it was clicking with Heup, for whatever reason.

Danny left for Tenn and poached him. We got great, great value for that occurring, and Auburn paying a majority of Gus’s pay for like at least 4 years. Those are major blessings. We now have a staff that seems like it will be more consistent, and can do better at recruiting. We’ll have to see how players develop. Will we win more…unknown but 9-4 last season was pretty good considering new offenses, defenses, staffs, the injuries sustained, and people we had to play.

I think Heup can do well at Tenn. I also think the same thing could happen there as here. Heup can develop QBs and has a good offensive scheme. I think with the money, resources and a good staff around him that can give him good feedback he can definitely succeed there. Heck, they just flat-out bought one of the top 5 QB prospects.

I like where we are headed. Maybe Gus isn’t a super long term solution but if he can give us 4-5 years of consistency while transitioning to the Big 12 that can be built on by the next person. We have a good track record since 2004 with three coaches so far. We’ll see about Gus (the 4th).

When’s your court date for the Jan 6 riot?

The culture was steadily eroding under Heup. Great for QB developing which is obviously very important but the defense and special teams were neglected and the players outside of the ones putting up huge offensive stats seemed disconnected from him. Win/Win for everyone involved to move on in the way it happened.

I know its been discussed many times, but I do wonder how things may have been if Shannon’s hiring was done differently.

The fallacy of this thread is one, "we" didn't chase Heuple out. He wasn't fired . He was offered a more prestigious job with more money from his old boss.. Does the man have flaws in coaching? Yes, they all do unless the work for the devil at Alabama. 😆

The other fallacy is one's love or hate of Heuple can be and likely is mutually exclusive of how they view COVID .

The guy is gone. In 5-10 years of being in the BigXII UCF will be more of a destination job and less of stepping stone job.

He he he.

if you respond. Make sure you are wearing double worthless masks in your car while driving alone and explaining why the coach you ran off is not worthy of you.

Carry on. COVIDiots. Mask up for the next home game. Except if you are eating. Or talking. Or. Well. Anything.

Wore a mask in my car a few days ago because my son and I had COVID and I needed to pick up some baby Tylenol. Went through the pharmacy drive through but would hate to risk getting anybody sick through the drawer/window. There's a time and place for masks.

If they handle money and cards, will the mask help? I saw 2 people at gym the other day wearing masks. No gloves and obviously not washing hands in between sets. The germs are getting on their hands and could enter through eyes and ears. To each their own.

You can pay with the store app (Walmart Pay) or they can wear gloves when they handle your card. Best to let them know in advance so they can tell you if there's anything special you need to do.

Heupel needs to be in the SEC. He can coach players up, develop a great scheme, and score points. However, he isn't the best recruiter. Being the SEC remedies that. As long as Heupel wins, he will get good recruits. As long a he gets good recruits, he will be able to coach them up and continue to win. At UCF, Heupel had several challenges. Mainly we could not rely on our reputation to bring players in. We had a number of players interested but they all signed with P5 schools. At Tennessee, he gets his pick of players because they are SEC and winning. When you're losing, recruiting is tough. Its even tougher when you're losing and you have no history to fall back on (USF). If Tennessee keeps winning they will draw players away from Georgia and Alabama and Florida. All he needs to do is keep drawing players away from Florida and I will be happy with that. I just want to see their egos deflated a bit, we need to make room for UCF's ego in this state :)
