Dropped from rankings: UCLA 18, Boise State 20, Northwestern 21

Others receiving votes: Mississippi State 38, Wisconsin 37, Pittsburgh 32, North Carolina 30, UCLA 30, Texas Tech 14, BYU 9, Navy 9, Oregon 5, Illinois 5, Western Kentucky 5, Utah State 5, Washington State 5, Northwestern 4, Marshall 3, Arizona 2, Boise State 2, Bowling Green 1

And all three will lose their coaches after this season. The price for having a successful program. Unless you hire an aging coach or one with baggage which GOL had both.

Memphis should be ranked higher after beating Ole Miss. No doubt the American conference is getting better. Power 5 conferences are going continue to schedule G5 teams rather than FCS teams in the future. Strength of schedule matters now rather than just a paycheck. It is going to take time but more results like Ole Miss/Memphis and people may start to think of the American as a member of the now Power 6. The problem for the American is the TV contract is lower than the P5 and that makes it harder to keep the really good coaches. You almost have to become like a Boise State and have it be to where you win no matter who is the coach.

The Mountain West thought the same as well when they considered themselves better than the Big East. None of their fans thought Utah and TCU would leave for a big conference. No one thought BYU would go Independent. If this trend continues and if ESPN doesnt want Fox Sports to have a footprint in areas that ESPN controls, ESPN is going to have to open up their wallets to prevent schools from groveling to big conferences to join.

but i digress.....http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/13916616/associated-press-top-25-poll

The American has held its own against the Power 5 this season, going 7-11 with wins against Penn State, Miami and Louisville. The Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt and Conference USA are a combined 9-73 against Power 5 teams.

For this season, the American is well-positioned to earn the spot saved for the highest-ranked champion from the Group of 5 in the New Year's Six bowls, but Aresco is thinking bigger.

"We want to be considered for the playoff spot," he said. "We're not just content to be playing for a Group of 5 spot on New Year's Day."

Huggers need to read this. They always insist that conference titles and trophies are important - even if you make the conference look like a warm up squad when facing P5 schools. We lost to 7-5 NC State? So what we're the American champions! I doubt Aresco wants to be associated with that kind of mentality.

Temple moves into the polls after falling behind to our awful team through 3 quarters? Wow, this only shows how completely we are forgotten at a national level that the pollsters have no idea how bad we actually are.

Edit: Just realized coaches poll, so not sure if they were in last week. If not, they moved in by that?

The worst and saddest thing about this????

WE ARE NOW THE AAC' S WEAK LINK AND ARE BRINGING THIS CONFERENCE DOWN!!

Who would have thought??

We've rarely been a strong link when we join a conference anyways. I can only recall 2013 as the year we ever brought anything to the table. Sure we got big conference wins in 2007 and 2010 but more often than not we fail to represent our conference against the BCS/AQ/P5 teams.

I agree. I doubt Rhule goes away anytime soon. Even if he goes 12-0, his overall record isn't very attractive to a program just yet. Give him two or three more years and perhaps an ACC school in the northeast will pull the trigger on him.

That's another reason why GOL needs to go. If we can quickly turn things around, everyone will forget this crappy season.

Yep, we can still build off of what we had in 2013. It is still fresh in everyone's minds. Another year or two from now---all forgotten.

This is very good. Boise losing also help the AAC for a Playoff bowl or whatever the top 10 bowls are called.

However Memphis should be in the top 15
