1. Thus ends the Shawn Finney era-ette, 3-0. He’s got to get a ton of credit for his sideline leadership for three quality conference wins - that’s huge! There’s a bit of debate whether he gets the wins officially (the NCAA prohibited Calhoun from getting credit for UConn’s record while he was on suspension), but at least he gets joint wins in my book!

2. In the first half Houston had no answer for Keith Clanton - 14 points in 14 minutes. He ended with 18 points and a ton of rebounds. Great game!!

3. Simply a fabulous crowd. 7800+ loud, energetic fans, sparked by the return of the student body. Cool move to have the team wearing the giveaway t-shirts during pre-game warm-ups.

4. In the second half Houston had no answer for Isaiah Sykes. He ended up with 21 points and 14 rebounds. His emergence will free up Keith and Marcus later in the conference season, as opponents simply focused on them last season.

5. We ended up with 27 offensive rebounds - let THAT sink in!

6. Great game by Josh! One mid range jumper, two baby hooks and two dunks. The latter dunk came from a quick pass from Keith to Isaiah, who delivered a nifty push-pass to Josh on the baseline. Simply pretty basketball…

7. Just damn, Dwight. Experience says that JUCO big men come into their own during the last half of their SR year (Payne, Williams), and you could see the signs that it was coming. But he was on the bench in street clothes tonight, and maybe he can still help during practice.

8. We were up late in the 2nd half, but the lead had dwindled. Two straight steals by AJ, resulting in two straight massive dunks by Isaiah. Game damn over! The second dunk came over 3 Houston defenders, and somehow from behind the backboard…

9. I’ll be very happy when halftime becomes halftime again, instead of Cheer Squad Nationals Practice. This year seems to be worse than ever! Even the Knight Moves segment was a weird, avant-garde, gothic thing. Just damn…

10. Marcus has been gutting out his game lately. Teams have been playing him tough, and he’s playing tough in return. He hit two important 3’s late, and kept Houston’s D honest. And he’s taking care of the ball extremely well…

11. Unsung heroes tonight are PJ and Kasey. Active, rebounds, blocks, a couple of buckets, good minutes.

12. And AJ controlled the game. He’s a different player now. He wasn’t hitting his shot tonight, so he ensured others did. One turnover in the past two games.

13. We’re getting better every game, and I think we can get past the unfortunate losses of Jeff & Dwight - I liked their contributions to the team. Marshall away, and then Memphis at home. Two test games (understatement).

Thanks Hoops good report as always. Watched the last 3rd of game on line, To me it simply looks like a team that is all grown up.

Always a great read Hoops. Here is my observations and questions.

No Rob Days. His playing time has been reduced from the beginning of the season. Is he not developing?

Spurlock needs more mins. I believe that he is rhythm player who needs quality mins rather than the 1-3 mins here and there.

Crittle played excellent. I think it was his best game of the year.

Our defense shouldn't be overlooked. It probably the best thing our team does.

Sykes plays well when he can get near the basket. Tulane showed that if you play away of him, he becomes ineffective offensively. Tonight that wasn't the case.

Jordan and Clanton play too many mins. Yes they are that good but it shows that we either lack depth or have no faith in our bench. Their mins are 36 and 34 respectively. Syracuse (great depth) doesn't have a player with more than 29 mins per game.

Great atmosphere. Big game on Saturday against Marshall.
