1. Now THAT’S what college basketball is all about - damn fun game!!
2. But I’ve gotta admit that I’m a jaded Knight fan after 40 years. As Memphis whittled away at a double-digit UCF lead, I just knew that if Memphis got the lead we wouldn’t win it. They got the lead, but our D kept to a brief one-possession one and led to Keith’s dramatics in the waning seconds.
3. I’m not a fan of rushing the court, but if you’re gonna rush the court that’s the way you do it!! Even though Memphis isn’t the juggernaut of the Calipari era, it made the statement that UCF belongs at the top tier of the conference. Trivia question: when was the only other time UCF fans rushed the court (answer later)?
4. Keith played the kind of dominant game we’ve believed he was capable of. He was extraordinarily aggressive inside, especially early in the game after Memphis (read: Will Barton) built a 10-2 lead. His game-winning put-back/FT with 4 seconds to go was nothing short of sheer will.
5. And that was the fiercest inside game I’ve ever seen UCF compete in. Tarik Black is a man, and Josh battled him every second. That said, Black was hooking big-time to get to the bucket. Great game by Josh!
6. Pre-game Tots & Tiaras routine, brought to you by the Osceola County Vice Squad. Ironic presentation of the game ball to the officials by a representative of UPS. No Knight Moves halftime show, as the Cheer Squad received the crowd’s National’s results appreciation. They did do a mini-routine at the under 16:00 media TO, dressed in sparkly black halter tops, short black skirts, and those new black high-heeled go-go boots - grrrrrr! And the return of the Biggie Dance Cam!!
7. Marcus started slow, caught fire late in the first half, and played really tough in the second to finish with 20. He simply refused to allow us to lose…
8. Speaking of, His Airness was in his box tonight, sadly bereft of his newly-betrothed Brazilian bikini babe. Midway through the 2nd half Marcus gets caught in the baseline corner, only to be bailed out by the Memphis PG with a foul. Pastner goes nuts, rips off his jacket, and stares at MJ’s box as if to imply that Marcus is getting preferential treatment because of his presence.
9. Tristian was skying tonight on the defensive side, and had a monster block late in the game against Black to keep their lead to one possession. And three 3’s!
10. That crowd was SO big (HOW BIG WAS IT?!), that even Admiral Harms couldn’t schmooze all of them! Fabulous crowd, fabulous atmosphere!!
11. It won’t show it in the stats, but AJ had a helluva game. One key 3, and only one TO - his only one in the past three games.
12. Tough stretch ahead - UAB & Tulsa away, then So Miss at home.
13. Trivia answer: 1994 on national TV in the TAAC Conference game when we beat Stetson to go to The Big Dance for the first time. How far we’ve come…
