1. Damn good win against a talented, but underachieving team. Most balanced scoring effort of the year - 3 players in double figures, 3 more with 6+.

2. The Return of AJ!! Had 7 points, and at least as many assists. Here’s his impact on the team: mid-2nd half he returns to the game with UCF up 7. He leaves with us up 13, just after he hits an NBA 3, and a steal/layup. He leaves the game, the lead dwindles to 7. He returns again and the lead builds to 12. The O just seems to become smoother with him in the game. [Personal note to AJ: Sorry, I forgot my UCF Santa Hat…]

3. Celebrity sightings: Jack “The Goose” Givins, AJ Tyler (sportin’ an attractive blond at his side), Stanley P., UCF HOFers Alan Gooch, Tom Clark and Bo Clark, plus The Clark-ettes (more on the Clark Family later).

4. Tight game in the first 10 minutes of the 1st half, until Donnie throws a 2-3 zone at RI. They score 7 points the rest of the half, and we would’ve had a larger half-time lead but they hit a late 3.

5. I missed the Knight Moves halftime show (gasp!), because of last night’s no-show and the lasses didn’t leave the sidelines for their usual costume change. So I went to the john - I know, TMI. Able Assistant Critic CK described their show as “eclectic, late-50’s beatnik coffee shop performance art” (whatever the hell THAT means!).

6. Is it no longer against the rules for teams in dark uniforms to travel? The zebras sure seemed to think this was the case tonight…

7. Donnie called a lot of isolation plays for Marcus late in the 2nd half, and he delivered with FTs after hacks. Deservedly made the All-Tournament team, and would’ve been MVP had that award been given.

8. Caught the last 1:30 of the UCF-FSU Women’s game - it took 21 minutes. The only saving grace was that the FSU HC is reasonably attractive. We lost by 14…

9. Donnie admitted after the game that he should have played Tristan more in the last 10 minutes of the game. He’s becoming so much more confident in his shot, especially in clutch situations. Plus he’s a very effective weak-side rebounder.

10. The University quietly unveiled a very appropriate tribute to Torchy tonight on the SE wall of the 2nd Floor atrium. Along with a list of his numerous achievements, it features a large photo of The Torch (in a light-colored leisure suit) being carried off the court by the team after his arguably biggest-ever victory - the 1975 17 point OT win over Rollins after being 22 down. That win gave us our first-ever invite to the D-II Tournament. The Clark Family had a family photo taken during halftime. Check it out next game!

11. Isaiah was stifled by fouls early in the game, but still had his typical game. He just does the little things so well. He made the All Tournament team, too. This just in (according to WFTV) - he was the Tournament MVP as well! [real-time journalism, right here!]

12. So after 13 of our 14 OOC games (Palm Beach Atlantic is later in the year), we’re a weird 10-3. Wins over UConn, ODU and College of Charleston, losses to Harvard, La-La and FSU. We’ll take 10-3, but it IS a weird 10-3.

13. Now begins the brief Shawn Finney era-ette on Wednesday, ironically against his previous HC gig - Tulane. They’ve been playing well, hopefully we’ll have more enthusiastic crowds. It’s conference season!!

Thanks Hoops!

Issiah is a beast out there. He is the ultimate glue guy.

What is Issiah's best model btw? I find it hard to figure out myself.

Here's the video of the post-game interviews by Marc Daniels with Donnie Jones and Isaiah Sykes that is aired on 740 AM.

UCF Videos even adds a few highlights to this package (great job, since this was done shortly after the game ended).

Daniels interviews DJ and Sykes

Sykes reminds me of an undersized Dennis Rodman. Constant motor, superior defender and offensive rebounder, finishes around the basket, below average shooter.

I really like his demeanor on the court.
