The Middle East: Are we IN or OUT?

Last year, we heard our board's Usual Suspects say that 20 years of war in the Middle East was enough. The same people who blamed Obama for the rise of ISIS turned around and applauded Trump and sang "it's about time!" when he 'pulled his own Obama move' and said were leaving Afghanistan for good this time. Trump is gone but Joe Biden is following through on Trump's pledge to get us out.

But before we've completely evacuated our troops, we're hearing warnings from the MSM as well as some Congressional Republicans that it will bring about troubling consequences. And quite frankly, I'm pretty sure they're right. I was on record a year ago when Trump was still in the Oval Office that completely abandoning the region was a mistake. I feel the same way with Biden's follow-thru on Trump's withdrawal pledge.

After 20 years, Americans need to make up their damn minds whether we're ALL-IN or ALL-OUT because, mark my words, nasty stuff in the Middle East will no doubt happen again and the same folks who were giddy about Trump's withdrawal will say, with straight faces, that 'Biden OWNS all the horrible atrocities taking place in the region now that we're gone.'

Will we be willing to ignore those atrocities and resist the pressure that will mount OR will we do YET ANOTHER about-face and return? Once we're out, I think we should stay out---but I've got a bad feeling about history repeating itself.

There's a great interview that Pat Buchanan did with Ralph Nader several years back that covered this issue and why it was such a terrible idea to go into Iraq. I'll see if I can find it.

My take on this is: get out and stay out. Take a more nationalistic approach to our economy so we don't have to worry about what's going on halfway around the world.

I don't disagree -- but it's easier said than done.

When the nightly news features heartfelt stories about the victims of ME atrocities (i.e. women who were getting an education while the US was around but who are now Taliban sex slaves,) how does America turn a blind eye to such atrocities? Whether we're talking beheadings, enslavement, or other barbaric behaviors from Islamic terrorists, ignoring them is going to be difficult, particularly when it will be impossible not to play politics with it.

Simple. Just recognize the fact that we can't afford to step in.

I'd love to pay off my neighbors house that is in foreclosure because he's a nice guy, but I would have to mortgage my own house to do so. That seems like a stupid idea.

i was gonna read until i saw it took only 2 sentences to cry about Trump again.

for a group that bemoaned "not my president" you sure let his time as president occupy a lot of headspace.

When we were energy independent last year, there was no reason to stay in middle east. Joe decided to do away with the that independence, , so we need to be more deliberate in pulling out. Hopefully middle eastern men like women like a slow smooth withdraw. At the end of the day we still need to reduce our foot print there.

For starters there has been conflict there looooong before the United States existed as a country. For thousands of years people there have been in a pissing match .

Trump got a half dozen Arab nations to formalize relations with Israel. There was real progress there in his strategy. Trump had us fully energy independent too. We were a net exporter of energy for 3 years . So, my take is to finish the pipeline from Canada, invest in green energy, build more nuclear power plants and get out of the middle east.

Their 1,000 year feud is on them. We can't fix them. We need to be free from their drama and the only way to do that is to be energy independent. We need to be more nationalist in looking out for our best interest here. I say leave and tell them on our way out. if you f with us ,you are going to feel our wrath rain down from heaven like burning hot phosphorus mama .

Things are going to get horrific again. The Taliban have money coming in from rich oil owners for anything they want to do
