The money must have been to good at Oregon....Stansbury gone

I'm sure, at least a decent sized factor in his decision, had something to do with a conversation they had 3.5 years ago, that went something like this:

-Todd: I just got offered a position as the HEAD AD for UCF! We're moving to Orlando!
-Family: I don't wanna go to Orlando. Why can't you just be the AD here in Oregon.
-Todd: Because they have an AD. I can't pass up this opportunity.
-Family: Shucks. Well if the AD ever leaves, and you get offered, do you promise we can come back?
-Todd: Of course.

Really no reason to overthink this. His kids grew up in Beaverton. Orlando can be pretty bland, especially if you don't have a car. Good luck Stansbury!

Orlando can be bland? Are you freaking kidding me? He was there nine years and got a head AD opportunity with a P5 school he was just at!

Did you read any of the context in my post? When I say "family," I mostly mean his kids. For them, it was certainly bland. Beaverton is as close to the coast as Orlando, with mountains and rivers everywhere. Orlando is a city that you make fun, which is why it's fun. It's hard to make fun, when you don't have a huge pool of people or a way to access all of the surroundings.

UCF makes Orlando fun, but if you're not old enough to get in on the action, I could see it getting a little bit bland. I also don't think many coaches, at the end of the day, want to win more than making their family happy.

Sorry but Orlando is simply a cess pool, comparable to a bag of garbage.

Oregon is light years ahead of Orlando in terms of natural beauty, quality of life and anything else you can think of. Any fool would pick Oregon over crummy Orlando.

I was with you for most of this post. The guy spent 17 years there and probably became his dream job at some point.

But Orlando bland? This was about a job, not about the city. And if it was, it's because they lived in Oregon a long time.

I understand making the fam happy - makes sense. But mountains and rivers everywhere make Oregon better for kids? That naturally makes it fun? So kids in Oregon just walk around the woods at all ages? You have to be older to get in on the action in Orlando? Hmm.. I wonder why every single flight I've taken into Orlando has soo many kids on it. I also wonder if that many kids are on flights into Oregon.

It's so subjective. Some people like Oregon and the west coast and some people like Orlando and Florida. They both have pros and cons.

I really like this post; however, TS and wife do not have children.

Lassiter is originally from out west, attended college in Oregon, AND has kids. Maybe that's who BlackOutKnight meant.

He has roots in Oregon and maybe he was tired of the weather in Orlando. I live on the west coast and even after living in Orlando for six years I couldn't get used to the heat and humidity. Can't blame the guy for taking the job, you can't take the professional move of an individual personal. Stansbury did a good job here, best of luck to him in the future.

Why don't we just do some research and do a salary comparison. The guy has a family, is from there and you only live one life. Just for example. If he's making say $300,000 at UCF and $500,000 at Oregon State, that would be a whole different lifestyle and world for him and his family. That would be pretty much a slam dunk without an argument.

Does anyone know the salary difference?

Just did a little research. He made $375,000 in 2013 and that year the ex-Oregon State AD made $562,000. There you go.

I was thinking the same thing! Kids can give a crap about mountains and woods. Now the beach, and attractions, and girls and warm weather....different story. IMHO :)

I didn't know the only beach in the world was in Orlando. You people must be idiotic trolls "Kids can give a crap about mountains and woods." (obviously can't be serious), or are complete morons. The beach is 1 hour away from Oregon State. Please tell me what "mountains and woods" are 1 hour away from UCF. Of course, if I were him I'd stay at UCF till they dragged me away, but the Pacific Northwest is absolutely beautiful (lived in Seattle) and I'd choose going back there second to UCF. "Ski in the mountains in the morning, go to the beach in the afternoon." Try doing that in Orlando. I guess you never heard of snow bunnies.

Add beautiful farming communities, wineries, and natural desert. State law prevents you from pumping your own gas. Winter snowmobiling is the best in the world. Yes, Oregon has it all.

Why would kids care about outdoors? The live for Texting and computer games.

How's the snorkeling and water skiing in Oregon? And of course the beach is beautiful in Oregon year round...not

It's a P5 job of the same position, which will of course pay far more so if he's offered, he takes it. Bringing up the geography and natural climate of the relative areas is silly, unless of course you think ND/Ohio State/Alabama/etc are getting top AD talent just because they have the best natural climate/geography. If you think that, you're an idiot.

It's like thinking the grown-ass men deciding on conference expansion really care about us having 'Central' in our name in any appreciable amount. It's a numbers ($) and prestige game, period.

It'd be silly to bring up the climate unless of course the man is originally from there and acclimated as such.

You're acting like he's a delicate fern, and not a human being perfectly capable of living in a wide variety of climates. It's possible that the climate/location played a factor, sure, but he doesn't take the job unless it's a raise and I can guarantee that if UF came calling, the climate wouldn't be an issue.

It's also possible he just liked their team colors more, if we're just going to say the first things that pop into our heads and not think like rational adults.

I left Florida for that exact reason, and literally thousands of people move to Florida from the northeast annually, for the weather. You're right though, totally far fetched.

I'm surprised at all the negative comments on my post. I was never trying to knock UCF or Orlando. I love Orlando and wouldn't have been actively reviewing this board for the last 8-9 years, if I had an agenda against our Knights.

I was just pondering about Todd's departure and thinking of other possible reasons for him to leave. I didn't think my suspicions were out of the realm of possibility. Orlando, on a climate and topographic comparison, is a polar opposite to East Oregon.

If he left Orlando for an AD position in Houston, I wouldn't mind the negative chatter (I really don't mind it on message boards, either way). Orlando and Oregon have different weather, different terrain, different culture, etc.... If someone were to put down all our differences on paper, that compilation might make "War and Piece" seem like a short story.

Except he moved back for a job, hence not moving back until after he got offered a better job. Come on, you're just looking silly.
