Most of us in the Dungeon graduated from the state school known as UCF. We walked that campus for years and then upon graduating got jobs and stuff. We are all passionate, why I don't know sometimes, about UCF.
Unlike pro sports where the teams are in a town and privately owned, college athletics is heavily subsidized by alumni and community leaders giving private donations to support the college teams. Every year there is a push to raise money and shake the trees for donors to step up.
Many here have stepped a lot and many step up where they can. To me that's the core of this. We all feel a sense of pride but we are all part of ownership group of Knight Nation. Every pen stroked to be a Shareholder or just to make that parking donation goes into a program that we all actively support with our time and money. We are the ones who power UCF athletics. We are the ones who believe in this. We are the ones who do have pride and ownership here. You just don't walk away from that. I mean you can,but that's why it's so hard because you give and give and give.
That donation and season ticket buy ties us emotionally to our team. I may tune in once in a blue moon to the Dolphins or Bucs and I have no connection there. While at UCF I am financially and emotionally invested in the program being an alumni, a small time donor ,but donor none the less and season ticket holder.
College athletics is really special because of these kinds of connections. It's the basis of our Fandom and it's what drives all of us nuts in a good way when UCF wins and in a bad way when UCF loses .
In this vane , I am a Knight and no matter how bad Gus gets , I will always be a Knight . Win or lose I will root for my Alma matter. I will support UCF athletics and because I am just a sucker to believe in the idea these athletes actually want an education as much as they want to be in pro sports , I will cheer them on.
I hate the feeling I got Saturday night but that feeling reminded that I still care . I care about these games and I care that by supporting UCF athletics I am helping a young man or woman achieve their dreams. We are all called to serve one another and donating to the Charge on Fund and somewhat the Kingdom NIL is helping a young person get an education, to better themselves and hopefully pay it forward in the future. Call me a romantic or just stupid, but I still believe in the notion of the Student athlete.
I don't know about yall ,but I will be there the rest of the season at the Bounce House and if we make a Bowl, I will be there too. I am there for the team and for my passion of UCF. It sucks losing so bad . It really does. It's out my sense of loyalty and passion that will drive me insane being a fan this season. I will be there .
I also have this sense of hope too. Hope one day we will win again. Hope for happy days again. Hope for a brighter future and bigger days at UCF. That's what it means to be a fan of college athletics . You gotta have some hope.
Oh, someday, girl, I don't know when
We're gonna get to that place
Where we really wanna go and we'll walk in the sun
But 'til then, tramps like us
Baby, we were born to run
