I have not posted on these boards for weeks, my last post was after the Stanford game when I said that UCF only had Div 1-AA talent and would struggle against Furman. That being said I have read hundreds of posts over the past few weeks and didn't feel the need to post. I think many of you just don't realize how big this problem is and why UCF is basically screwed.

In September the Big 10 allowed games against Cincinnati and UCONN to count towards non conference games, why? It appears to me that both those teams are future targets for the Big 10 expansion. Say what you want about football but both of those schools have basketball programs that have national respect. UCF basketball has not won a conference title since UCF was in the Atlantic Sun, ten years ago. UCF baseball has not won a conference title since 2004, the Atlantic Sun. Basically UCF is a one trick pony for football and when that starts to fail, UCF has nothing to fall back on athletically unlike UCONN, Cincy and Memphis.

What UCF lacks is leadership, I mean leadership from the top and that is Dr. Hitt. Dr. HItt took control UCF on March 1, 1992. During his tenure his Athletic Directors have been Steve Sloan, Steve Orsini, Keith Tribble and Todd Stansbury. Outside of Steve Orsini, UCF has never had an athletic director that was qualified to be hired at the time UCF hired them. Now the AD problem is just more than a few sports, it's the entire athletic department including the GKC, Marketing and Ticket Sales. UCF has never treated boosters with any level of consistency or respect. They can't seem to expand the base and if you live outside of Orlando, good luck. The GKC has always been an underachieving clique an organization more worried about helping friends get perks than actually building a donor base. Marketing has always been underachieving and the excuses have never once made sense to me. You had Sloan signing idiot contracts limiting the distribution of UCF merchandising to Stansbury screwing UCF with the Nike contracts. The only decent AD UCF had was Steve Orsini because he made things happen for UCF when they needed them most but he was basically run out of town because the old guard didn't seem to like him, screw them.

Now you have GOL, a good football coach running the athletics department at UCF, a job he has never done before and is not qualified to do. But why not give him the job, its not like any other UCF AD was qualified. Which brings me back to my original post, this is all Dr. Hitt, he has hired ONE good AD out of four and it is his responsibility to oversee all aspects of the University, not just academics.

This is a time where Dr. Hitt needs to show his leadership, since UCF does not have a real AD, Dr. Hitt needs to be seen and heard. When companies have major problems you don't see the Vice Presidents of a division go out there and talk to the entire company, it is the CEO/President. This is a UCF athletic problem, not a football problem. There is no leadership across the board for any UCF sport and that is why UCF basketball is stuck in neutral, why UCF baseball can't seem to finish their stadium expansion and why UCF football has a succession plan that goes against logic.
