The Knights ahead of two Big Ten jobs? Yep. The American Athletic Conference plays good football. The Orlando area produces plenty of talent, and the size of the school makes it an attractive expansion target whenever the next round of that rolls around.
7. Illinois
8. Minnesota
9. N. Texas
10. Hawaii

Minnesota ranked that low is interesting. They quietly field decent teams consistently. Illinois should be ranked lower. Ron Zook almost had a revival of sorts coaching there and wasnt pressured to win immediately.

Expectations at UM are ridiculously high. I would say UCF is a better gig other than the IMMEDIATE salary

Virginia Tech over South Carolina? Interesting

VT is in the Coastal Division. The toughest team they play every year is East Carolina. They'll make the playoffs with a good coach.

Meanwhile USC couldn't win the SEC-East even with Spurrier at the helm and UF, UGA, and UT all having down years. A G5 team will make the playoffs before South Carolina.

Their expectations are no different than FSU or UF's expectations. They consistenly have top 10 recruiting seasons and they play in the ACC. They should expect to compete in the top 25 every year.

UF is the state flagship and draws over 90K a game. FSU is a smaller scale, but still a national brand. Miami is in a perfect recruiting area, but playing in front of 15K in Joe Robbie is lame. Pretty much looks like UCF back in the Citrus Bowl days. I don't see Miami being on the same level as either UF or FSU in terms of fans, brand, etc. Miami is a lot closer to UCF than some think. We would move right past them if we had ACC resources.

The facts show UM won 3 national titles before the other two even won a conference title. Hell, UF was a nobody until Spurrier took over in the earlier 90s. UM fans are fickle yet spoiled and have an image in getting back to this time period, not sure if this will ever happen. Not to mention, the university has taken huge steps to improve their image due to the sanctions and Shapiro saga. UCF is not close to the endowment the other 3 schools have. The money issues will continue to separate the big 3 and the big 5 so UCF is not close to the others as you may think.

My point is that makes UM an unattractive job and a job doomed for failure. Hired to be fired quickly. Too much pressure to repeat the past success. Times have changed.

I rather take the job at UCF, win with exciting football, excite the fan base, get into a power 5, get a raise, win there, and become a legendary coach. A nice dream/vision for a hungry, young upstart coach.

UCF as a much higher upside than UM in my opinion.
