I had some errands to run this morning and had a chance to listen to Rush Limbaugh. The last time I'd listened to his show was the day after the Capitol riot when he opined that "most of the rioters had to be Antifi and BLMers in disguise" because hard-working, Real American Republicans would never resort to violence. So given all the individual arrests of Q devotees, Proudboys, and Trump supporters (disturbingly many of them retired military and police), I was curious to hear what Rush's take was now.
But today, his grievance was regarding the devious efforts of the Left to 'brainwash' their political foes out of existence. He played a montage of TV soundbites of people talking about the need to "reprogram" the 72 million people who voted for Donald Trump. The brilliance of Rush Limbaugh is that if you listened to his takes without any context, you'd likely be shouting, "Hell yeah, Rush!" from behind your steering wheel. Whether you like him or hate him, the guy is arguably The Most Persuasive Influencer in my lifetime. The trouble with Rush is often not what he says, but what he doesn't say.
During his radio rant on 'the Left's' attempt to brainwash poor, downtrodden Conservatives into submission (because, Rush opined, "that's what Marxists do"), not once he he mention the storming of the Capitol on January 6th. And not once did Rush mention that these insurgents were doing what they were doing because their President (ahem, and Rush) said his landslide election victory for a second term had been "stolen" from him and nobody did anything about it. If you listened only to what Rush said, you'd think this was a sinister effort to exterminate conservative thought from our country.
It's THIS kind of bullshit that people listen to on a daily basis -- and yet we wonder why we have a great divide in this country.
