This is such BS - Tallahassee screws over UCF on naming rights deal

I hope we have enough UCF in Palm Bay to get this guy removed from office

and the magic might be a private company, but the arena was built with majority public money and is owned by the city and it's named after frickin amway, a ponzi scheme, pyramid scheme whatever you want to call it.

I think that tweet is messed up, isn’t being against segregation a good thing?

He made a mistake...corrected it later.

Then FSU President Doak Campbell kept FSU "all white" during his tenure by not allowing African-Americans to enroll at FSU...and he wouldn't even let visiting groups WITH African-American scholars on his campus.

Weren’t all schools all white or all black at one time? UF was the school for men and FSU was for women. That was just how it was.

In 1909, Buchman Act set up state universities by race and sex but that all changed in 1947 when GI's flooded the state after WWII...so Florida State College for Women became Florida State University in 1947 and became co-ed.

Doak Campbell then took extraordinary measures to ensure that FSU stayed all white thru his tenure that ended in 1957...and wouldn't even allow visiting african-american scholars to speak or even enter FSU's campus.

NOTE: First Black Football player at FSU came in 1968 and the first black varsity football player at UF finally played in a game in 1970.

So now the move is to further stir up bad blood with those that are in power?

I haven't followed this at all, so read the follow on article about FAU etc. It made it seem like what killed the naming rights wasn't the politician, but was inside UCF itself, with a guy who had ties to the insurance industry, and yet was allowed to speak about it in the meeting? In proper business, you have ties you leave the room. I guess that didn't happen here.

Isn't this "Fine" clown the same idiot who said he wanted to shut down UCF after the
misappropriated spending "scandal"? He actually said he was working on a plan to shutter UCF for a period of 5-10 years and later said he wasn't really serious after getting flooded with negative press.
He sure seems to have an anti-UCF agenda.
Just another hypocritical slimy politician who gained power and wealth as an executive in the wonderfully wholesome gambling industry. Go figure.

For more on RF, see this site. The guy has done some pretty good work in general but he is a complete wackjob on the Higher Education Committee. He should probably be booted. Brevard alums and students need to act.

The Tally politicians are full of crap. This is them looking for ways to benefit financially. They are crooks.

Now a former FSU Football Playwr wants FSU to change name of Football Stadium since its named after a known racist.

FSU president asks for review of stadium named after segregationist

Was he a known racist for the last 30 years?
I read about it when our roofclaim.com deal got shut down. The double standard between FSU and us was part of the story. And it was well known way before that too but that was apparently much more acceptable than roofclaim.com

So they care now?

Not really...they are now just getting public pressure to do so...as it wouldn't even mean anything if they took Doak Campbell's name off the stadium and put on Bobby Bowden's instead. (Or more likely, sold naming rights to a sponsor since their athletic dept, like most, has lost millions already this year).

They'll get $30 million from roofclaim.com
