I only have a couple of books backlogged and I like to have 4-5. My 2 remaining books on backlog are The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara and The Last Full Measure by Jeff Shaara. After those two, I'm steering away from historical fiction for a while.
I read a lot of what you all recommended and really enjoyed the Ken Follet books that Bob2 recommended.
I read Wool that Sucks recommended but it was pretty simplistic - (however, I really enjoyed the dystopia topic).
The Martian was pretty good also. Flash Boys was super.
I just finished up reading all of Jeff Shaara's WWII historical fiction novels; The Rising Tide, The Steel Wave, No Less than Victory and The Final Storm. He's a fabulous author where the accounts of the war (incl Presidents, military leaders, strategies, locations,... are all historically accurate but some of the low level characters are not.) A lot of his work is required ready by the war college. Highly recommended.
I also finished Five Years to Freedom by James "Nick" Rowe (Brahman - you might enjoy that one since it's non-fiction). He was a POW in Vietnam that ended up escaping and made it back to the USA. He was responsible for creating the SERE training that our special forces go through.
Have any of you all read any books that you can recommend?
