Classes at UCF began today, so the clock is now ticking for admitting spring semester transfers. While Gus Malzahn didn't give a firm date in his podium remarks on Sunday, he did acknowledge while walking out they probably have until Friday at the latest to get a player admitted into school. That puts UCF at a disadvantage because there are schools encouraging targets to visit them this upcoming weekend, and UCF really can't wait that long.
I'll go ahead and relay a few things I've heard, though hopefully I can find out additional information later. It's not as easy tracking transfers.
-WR Kobe Hudson (Auburn): He visited UCF this past weekend. Ryan O'Keefe and Isaiah Bowser were working on him. He apparently told players he would be deciding between UCF and Alabama, but South Carolina is a legitimate player as well. There are rumors on the Auburn Rivals board today - posted by somebody who has been very credible in the past - that South Carolina is the favorite, though I don't think they even know he just visited UCF.
I've heard UCF felt confident after the weekend, but the longer it goes without an announcement is concerning because that means he's still shopping. South Carolina was apparently hoping to get him on campus for a visit ASAP - like UCF, their first day of classes was today as well.
-OL Ryan Swoboda (Virginia): Another weekend visitor. The current OL who were in town were working on him. He had been slated to OV to Miami this upcoming weekend, but he canceled that and scheduled Virginia Tech instead. UCF sources had felt very confident, but he can't drag it out and take another visit this weekend if he wants to come here. He's going to have to decide if he's ready to pull the trigger now on UCF.
-OL Tre'Mond Shorts (East Tennessee State): Another player who was quiet on socials about visiting, and a similar situation to Swoboda in that he has another visit lined up this upcoming weekend - to Nebraska. I heard more chatter about UCF confidence in Swoboda than Shorts, and if he is sticking with visiting Nebraska then it would be too late for UCF.
-LB Kris Moll (UAB): He told Rivals Portal yesterday he was working to set up visits with UCF and Fresno State. He's a Miami native with one year left, so if he had a committable offer from UCF you think he'd jump on it. I have checked in with him today, but haven't heard back.
And as the clock ticks, I'm sure UCF is working every angle to close on targets, names we know or maybe do not know. Off the top of my head, just speculating, in addition to WR and OL, UCF could use another experienced LB (not sure how ready the freshmen will be) and defensive line. Guys like Miami DT Jade Silvera - obviously UCF is all over him but so are a lot of other schools.
